In Whatcom County, Washington, county leaders recently voted to move a $205 million replacement jail and $34 million Behavioral Care Center into design and preliminary construction. NELSON's Civic & Justice team is helping turn urgent operational need into a human-centered, high-performance reality, designing a 155,000 SF campus with dedicated space specifically for behavioral health treatment.
As seen in Correctional News, the design-build plan prioritizes integrated courtrooms to reduce inmate transports, dedicated family visitation spaces, and a Rapid Resource Center designed to connect individuals with housing and social services upon release.
