NELSON's Civic & Justice team is helping turn urgent operational need into a human-centered, high-performance reality, designing a 155,000 SF campus with dedicated space specifically for behavioral health treatment.

As seen in Correctional News, the design-build plan prioritizes integrated courtrooms to reduce inmate transports, dedicated family visitation spaces, and a Rapid Resource Center designed to connect individuals with housing and social services upon release.

A decade into partnering with NELSON, a global financial leader returned with an 24,000 SF opportunity to rethink how its Chicago office should work. Early in schematic design, the direction shifted toward a hospitality-driven environment built around choice, movement, and flexibility, shaped by close listening to what this specific organization needed instead of broad industry assumptions.

An open, activity-based model replaced assigned seating and private offices, and a gradient floor plate flows from focused work into warmer, social spaces where natural materials and a green wall bring a hotel-lobby sensibility to daily work.

The outcome is a workplace with room to grow into, one that supports how the team works today and reflects where the organization is headed.
