🎉 Big News for Birth Centers in Minnesota! 🎉

We are thrilled to announce that the Birth Center Reimbursement Bill (HF1793 / SF2109) has officially passed this legislative session!

After months of hard work and advocacy, the bill was included in the final Health and Human Services Omnibus Bill (HF2 / SF6) during the special session on June 9, 2025, and was signed into law!

The bill first appeared in the Senate Omnibus (SF2669) back in May, but thanks to the dedication of the HHS Working Group and legislative champions, it made it into the final agreement and is now law. You’ll find the bill language under Section 16, Article 8, Human Services Health Care Finance.

This is a major victory for equitable maternity care access and sustainability for Minnesota’s birth centers.

The MN birth center midwives are hard at work to create sustainable funding for our valuable work! In 2024 alone TWO birth center closed due to the painfully low insurance payments for our comprehensive, life changing and important medical services. Help us pass legislation that will raise the reimbursement rates from both state and commercial payers for our facility and professional services. Many of our chapter members were able to attend the Birth Institute conference held in Minneapolis this week. We are so grateful for Meghan Warfield-Kimbal from our MN Dept of Health Services attending and working alongside us to seek solutions to our reimbursement issue. Meghan was awarded the AABC Public Advocate Award for consistent work to aid community birth!
