We had our creation meeting a couple weeks ago, picked the theme and necessary wildlife for inclusion and I got to drawing. The residents were completely fine with having an owl, rabbits and squirrels all in close proximity. They informed me, “well, ya know, it’s The Circle of Life”! All meetings should be that much fun.

Today the drawing was completed and tomorrow we begin painting!

This MC entry mural will be coming to you courtesy of the MC Resident artists and families and staff of The Pointe at Kilpatrick and the excitement is palpable. Everyone today was stopping by to check on progress.

The fun part for me is always the families who think I will be the painter, and I get to surprise them when I say, “Nope! “ I’m the designer and facilitator, but not the painter. The Residents will lead the way on that.

So tomorrow late morning I will get it all taped off and “prepped for success” and in the afternoon, we shall begin with the painting of sky, grass and trees.

People rarely believe that it is the Residents who paint the beautiful murals when I share pictures. So stay tuned this week for progress photos and videos so you can follow along a day at a time and see it all really happen.

* the paints we will be using are Blickcrylics. The only paints I ever use with MC residents because of their smooth consistency, student grade color reliability, affordability and completely non-toxic formula. If you haven’t used these paints, I highly recommend them!

So, can ya change this in your life? Just in case it’s true? Skip the phone, get up start your day with 10min of sunshine in your first 30minutes awake. ☀️☀️☀️

Yep, I know this is likely not true and more than likely ai p**p as well.

But what if it wasn’t?
Dementia Villages in the Netherlands have ways of including multiple generations in their communities.

A good number of senior living communities on the other side of the pond and a very few here actually reserve a couple apartments for well vetted college students in exchange for volunteer hours in support of engagement programming.

Decades ago The Eden Alternative demonstrated that the mono-culture of senior living was dramatically improved by adding pets plants teens and little kids to the daily mix and recreating the healthy chaos of multi-generational and species living.

Assisted living communities are far out of the budget of most retirees living on SS, but 1/4 of an apartment rent would be quite doable.

Our youth could use the support of their elders. Our elders need connections with the young.

Yeah, I know, there are many many issues to consider when looking at something like this. But what if we made the effort. On a small scale. Like the new retiree tiny home communities popping up. What if one, or two, in every collection was reserved for college students to rent?

So many opportunities are out there to foster connection, instead of disconnection. It seems to me we would all be better served by working in that direction together, instead of separately to build more separation.

What a wonderful idea.
In this month of Alzheimers Awareness, this is a marvelous example of how to restore honor purpose and dignity to those living with this horrible disease.

There have been a few things in the works lately. So now it’s time to share. 🙂
