Leadership lesson from our new intern!

Sometimes the freshest perspective comes from the newest voice on the team 💡

Today reminded me why flat organizational structures aren’t just trendy—they’re transformational.
We had a project. Four experienced team members at different levels on hierarchy worked on it. Draft after draft. Nothing quite hit the mark.

Then I noticed something: our newest intern, Michelle, seemed frustrated. In a casual conversation, I could sense she had ideas but felt stifled by layers of unclear instructions that had turned our original vision into a game of telephone.

So I bypassed the system & had a 5 minutes conversation with her. I started with questions then shared the big picture (vision) & gave her complete creative latitude to tackle it her way. We kept her supervisors looped in for transparency, yet it was her nut to crack.

The result? A masterpiece!! She absolutely nailed it 👍👏

Less than a month in a new organization, fresh out of university, and Michelle reminded us all why we need to stay curious, stay flat, lead with questions not hierarchy, give ownership and take initiative .

Innovation doesn’t always come from the corner office. Most times it comes from the corner desk of someone brave enough to see things differently.
