A historic milestone for Austal USA and the U.S. Navy!

We are proud to announce the official delivery of LCU 1710, the Navy’s first Landing Craft Utility (LCU) 1700-class vessel, and our first-ever steel ship delivered to the U.S. Navy!

This incredible achievement reflects the dedication, expertise, and collaboration of our entire shipbuilding team, program suppliers, and Navy partners. Designed to transport equipment and personnel from ship to shore, LCU 1710 successfully completed rigorous acceptance trials, proving its enhanced capability, endurance, and operational readiness.

"This accomplishment reflects the dedication and expertise of our workforce and our industry partners. It also demonstrates Austal USA’s ability to skillfully design, build and deliver highly complex steel vessels..." commented Gene Miller, President of Austal USA.

Join us in celebrating our talented shipbuilders who paved the way for this milestone!

Austal USA was honored to be part of the 2026 Alabama Career Technical Education (CTE) Summer Professional Development Conference!

We kicked things off with an industry tour of our advanced ship manufacturing facility, giving CTE educators a firsthand look at our shipbuilding operations and workforce development programs. Then, our very own Shernita Taylor and Brinkley Pierce took the stage on the Alabama Workforce Panel, sharing what it takes to launch a successful career at Austal!

The message was clear — bring the right attitude, work ethic, and willingness to learn, and we'll help build the rest!

We are passionate about partnering with Alabama's CTE educators to build strong pathways from the classroom to a rewarding career in maritime manufacturing and shipbuilding.

Austal USA Makes Mobile Shipbuilding History … 694 Feet of It.

From the massive floating dry docks built here during World War II to the 616-foot American Phoenix tanker launched in 2011, Mobile has a long, proud history of building big.

Austal USA didn’t just carry that legacy forward … we took it farther. With the successful launch of AFDM 15, the U.S. Navy’s first Auxiliary Floating Dry Dock Medium built in more than 40 years, our team set a new benchmark for Mobile shipbuilding.

At 694 feet long, 157 feet wide and approximately 12,000 tons, AFDM 15 is the largest vessel by overall dimensions known to have been launched from a Mobile-area shipyard into the Mobile River. It is also the largest launch Austal USA has executed in our 26-year history.

This milestone reflects the skill, precision and determination of our workforce, along with the strong partnership of the Navy and the maritime teams that helped make it possible.

Mobile always thinks and builds big. Austal USA is proud to carry that legacy forward.

Three of Austal USA’s awesome interns, under the direction of our Advanced Technologies team in Virginia, have been working with robotics this summer. They have successfully programmed a robotic arm to draw an Austal USA logo and leveraged computer vision to shoot basketballs into a hoop as they progress towards advanced applications like automated seam tracking and robotic welding. Austal USA is honored to have the opportunity to advance the skills of these talented students through our internship program. This group of interns proudly represent the following colleges and universities: University of Virginia, Virginia Tech, Carnegie Mellon University.

Last week, the Austal USA Community Relations Team had the privilege of touring Feeding the Gulf Coast and attending the groundbreaking ceremony for Prodisee Pantry's second food bank location! We are proud to support both of these incredible organizations as beneficiaries of the Austal USA 2026 Charity Golf Tournament grants. These funds helped to provide over 33,000 meals for individuals in need.

Their dedication to fighting hunger and serving our Gulf Coast communities inspires us every day. Together, we’re making a difference—one meal at a time.
