MERCED, CA.

A security guard died in a shooting in Merced County on Saturday night, according to the sheriff's office.

Officials said deputies responded around 11:12 p.m. to reports of a shooting during a private event the Los Banos Fairgrounds. 

A man was found with several gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff's office said.

Investigators later learned the victim was a security guard who was working the event, according to the sheriff's office. 

The security guard was reportedly involved in an altercation prior to the shooting.

The investigation is still underway. 

No suspect information has been announced.
