Channel 3 KCRA is having problems again. Channel 3 & 58 run off the same transmitter, so the same will be true with channel 58. They had the pixelating or no signal issue last year, and when I contacted their engineers they said a part on their transmitter would be replaced a few months later. Well, it was and everything was great until recently. It seems like it's back to the same thing again, pixilation or no signal. When I use my meter I can clearly see the signal bounces back and forth from 100% to 0%. This has happened multiple times since the Olympics started. I'm very frustrated with KCRA's excuses and lack of solving this issue. It's not your antenna, this is happening to everyone in their transmitting range. Please call the station and complain, else nothing will be done. As of January 2025, there are still periodic issues with weak signal.

Update: The issue has been resolved.... Hello all, Update on FOX 40. On Tuesday March 19, a high voltage component on the transmitter Tower for FOX 40 Sacramento failed, taking down the high power signal to the TV channel. They quickly switched over to a temporary low power transmitter so they could continue to broadcast, but the transmitter is only 10% of the normal power, so you may have issues receiving it. There is nothing wrong with your antenna. They assured me they have people working around the clock to restore the full power signal. No ETA yet, but it could be just days from now.

This is an antenna Balun, or Transformer. I broke it open so you can see what makes it tick. It allows you to connect coaxial cable to your old style twin lead antenna to maximize the transfer of the antenna signal down through the coaxial cable to your tv set. In the picture you see 2 incoming leads that attach to the antenna with 2 separate wing nuts. Each lead goes through a wire wound transformer. You can see the little square transformer in the center with the copper wires wound around through the center and outside of the transformer. As it exits the transformer, 2 wires go to the coaxial fitting, one to the ground outside threads, and the other to the center cooper conductor for the coaxial cable. the transformer takes the input of twin lead at 300 ohms and converts it to 75 ohms, which matches the impedance of the coaxial cable for your tv set, allowing maximum signal transfer from antenna to tv. If you have an old antenna, you can hook it up to your existing coaxial cable using an antenna balun.

KCRA channel 3 continues to be mediocre. Tonight the signal went completely out for 30 minutes, then came back full strength 30 minutes later. It's not your antenna, they continue to have intermitent issues with their transmitter. This will affect all the channel 3's as well as the 58's since these are transmitted by the same station's tower.

Another tower install today. I took down 2 towers and installed 3 in the last couple of months. This is going to be it for awhile until my right elbow heals. Will be sticking to antennas and satellite for now.

The Antenna TV rescan is April 29, 2020. This affects all customers with an antenna. There are channels that are changing frequency and to continue receiving these channels, you must perform a rescan on the above date or any time after. How do you do a rescan? With your TV remote, you must go into the Menu. You will scroll through the settings or setup menu displayed on your TV screen until you come across 'channels', 'autoscan' and then press enter to begin scanning. This function may vary by manufacturer and use different words to describe the channel scan feature, consult with your TV user manual. If you have tried & need help with the channel scan, please contact me and I will walk you through the procedure on the phone. Be sure you provide the Make and Model number of your TV before calling.
