On October 14, 1947, the Bell X-1 became the first plane to break the sound barrier, surpassing Mach 1. This rocket-powered, air-launched aircraft paved the way for generations of supersonic and hypersonic flights.

Congratulations to General Dynamics Mission Systems on the successful first hypersonic flight demonstration of the MO-Nav GPS-denied navigation receiver aboard Stratolaunch’s Talon‑A, the only autonomous, reusable, air-launched hypersonic flight test platform in the U.S. This flight underscores the value of real-world hypersonic flight testing and Talon-A’s role in helping customers advance hypersonic technology readiness.

Development of resilient navigation capabilities for contested environments is essential to future mission success, and today’s accomplishment reflects outstanding innovation and teamwork.
