Every successful CEO I have met knows their numbers. To profitably build a business there are 2 sets of numbers to understand.
1. Business Management

These documents are the "vitals" of your company's health:
+ Profit & Loss (P&L): Tracks your sales, variable costs, and fixed overheads to show your net profit .
+ Balance Sheet: A snapshot of your assets (what you own) and your liabilities (what you owe).
+ Break-Even: The point where your gross profit exactly covers your fixed costs.
+ Cashflow: Managing the timing of money moving in and out.
+ Investments: Using excess income to build your future.

2. Revenue & Profit Growth

While the mastery areas show the results, the 5 Ways formula shows the activity. By making small, 10% improvements in each of these areas, you can increase your bottom-line profit by a staggering 61% .

Lead Generation: Increasing the number of prospects.

Conversion Rate: Turning more of those prospects into customers.

Number of Transactions: Getting customers to buy from you more often.

Average Sale Value: Increasing the dollar amount of each purchase.

Profit Margin: Improving the percentage of each sale that you keep.

Your Future is in the Numbers

Understanding how these numbers work together is the only way to move from a "job" to a true business that creates wealth. Reach out to learn about the numbers that drive your business and how to use them to find your success

You wouldn’t start a cross-country trip without a map. Why are you running your business that way?

Business ownership is a journey. To make the right decisions at the right time, you have to know where you’re going.

Before you get any further into the "daily grind," ask yourself:
✅ What does this business look like when it’s finished?
✅ What is our Mission (the "What" and "Why")?
✅ What is our Vision (the "Where")?

Setting your destination doesn't mean it's set in stone—it means you have a reason to make the turns you're making today.

"People Smarts" > IQ.

Being "Smart" in a team environment means having the EQ to sense the room. It’s about communication, empathy, and awareness. It's the glue that makes the "Hungry" and "Humble" traits actually work in the real world.

Is your team "Smart" enough to scale?

Ego is expensive. Humility is a multiplier.

A "Humble" team member is a team-first player. They credit others, admit mistakes, and keep the focus on the mission. Without humility, your culture will eventually fracture under the weight of "who's right" instead of "what's right."

Hungry people don't need to be pushed; they’re already running.

"Hungry" is the first trait of a great culture. It’s the drive to go above and beyond without being asked. If you’re tired of micromanaging, you might have a "hunger" gap in your team.

Stop trying to be "everything to everyone."

A target audience isn't about excluding people; it's about focusing your energy where it actually produces a return. Whether it's based on demographics or specific industry needs, clarity is your best marketing tool.

My "target" for a great culture? People who are Hungry, Humble, and Smart. Over the next three weeks, I’ll be breaking down why these three traits are the engine of every successful business I coach.

"Problematic employees" aren't just an HR issue—they are a culture killer.

If you leave a toxic or underperforming team member unchecked, you aren't just being "nice." You are actively putting your entire company at risk.

Providing feedback isn't a personality trait; it’s a learned skill. The best leaders don't just "check the box" on the way to a firing. They provide direction from a position of care, choosing the right time and approach to actually change behavior. Learn more at https://johndavis.actioncoachflga.com/post/feedbackskills

In addition to business goals and accountability we tackle issues like this at ActionBOARD. Reach out to learn about the next event on May 1.

Is your P&L lying to you?

A lot of owners are concerned that their Profit and Loss statement and their Cash Flow don't seem to be working together. The truth? They shouldn't be "working together"—they should be managed 𝙨𝙚𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙮.

Your P&L tells you if your operation created profit:

Revenue - Costs = Profit

But your Cash Flow is about the rhythm of your business. Debt payments and the timing of your receivables can sink a "profitable" company if they aren't managed specifically.

When you manage both, you start making different decisions. You see where to reduce variable costs and how to time payments so you can optimize cash flow while maximizing profit.

Stop guessing. Start measuring. Make informed decisions. Collect rewards.

Are you Ahead, On, or Behind pace for your 2026 goals?

If you’re behind, the answer isn't "more hours." It’s a two-step recovery plan we discussed in our ActionBOARD this week:

1️⃣ Mindset: Clear the deck. Go for a walk or play some music. Occupy your creative right brain so your logical left brain can actually solve the problem.

2️⃣ Micro-Steps: If a task isn’t moving, it’s too big. Break it down until it’s "calendar-ready."

Success isn't about the size of the leap; it’s about the consistency of the steps to keep pace. Join us for future ActionBOARDS in June. Reach out to learn more.
