Should we let our employees use ChatGPT at work?"

Short answer: probably yes — with a few rules in place first.

Banning it outright doesn't stop people from using it. It just means they're using it without guardrails, on personal devices, with no idea what's safe to type into it.

The better move is deciding, on purpose: Which tools are approved. What data never goes in — client records, financial details, anything sensitive. Who checks the output before it goes out the door.

That's it. Most businesses don't need a 20-page AI policy. They need a clear, one-page answer to those three questions.

"How do I know if my IT provider is actually proactive, and not just saying that?"

Fair question — "proactive" gets used by basically every MSP. Here's how to actually test it:

Do they tell you about a problem before you notice it, or do you have to call them first? Do you get a straight answer on what's included and what things cost? If you've ever had to chase them for a ticket update, what happened? Do you get reports regularly from them?

Cybersecurity Awareness Month habit worth fixing: reusing passwords.

It's the easiest way to "make it easy for them." One password leaked from some other breach, reused on your email or your bank — now that one's theirs too.

Two fixes, no technical skill required: A password manager, so nothing gets reused. Multi-factor authentication (MFA), so a stolen password alone isn't enough to get in.

Neither takes long to set up. Both make you a much harder target.

Meet Felipe Torrado — Jr. System Administrator at Green Qube since October 2024.

Felipe's path into IT started early: "I spent far too long of my childhood learning how to make really bad computers run fast so I could play games, so I might as well put some of that knowledge to good use."

A few things about Felipe: He speaks three languages — Portuguese, Spanish, and English. He's a serious Lord of the Rings fan, right down to Tolkien's collected author notes. He cooks for fun, and Dominion is his go-to tabletop game.

His best tech tip for anyone in the field: "Always take screenshots of errors and issues — they may not always be able to be replicated."

In his own words: "I'm introverted, as many folks in my field are, but love to pretend to be extroverted."

MC has been part of the GreenQube team since April 2025. Born in Monroe and raised in Ruston, she now calls the Alexandria area home. She holds a Bachelor's in Business Management and a Master's in Industrial Organizational Psychology, both from Louisiana Tech.

A few fun facts about MC:

- She's been to Disney World 15 times, and is already planning trip #16 for later this year
- A lover of all the "grandma hobbies": crochet, cross stitch, embroidery, scrapbooking, and gardening
- Married, with her cat London as her self-proclaimed fuzzy desk partner
- A self-taught at-home barista who takes her latte game seriously

MC loves being part of a small business where every team member can make a real impact, and where supporting the community is part of the culture. Outside of work, she puts her baking skills to good use supporting community events whenever she can.

Her tech tip: "Forget a password, use a passphrase!" It's easier to remember and harder to guess. And never repeat a password.

Today in Tech — Firewall Vulnerabilities (Sept 2026)
Here's an uncomfortable truth about firewalls: the device meant to keep hackers out can itself become the way in.

This month, Cisco patched 18 vulnerabilities in its firewall software — several severe enough to let an attacker take remote control, no login required. At least one is already being actively exploited.

This isn't a knock on Cisco specifically. Every major firewall vendor patches vulnerabilities constantly — Palo Alto and Fortinet have had their own this year too. It's how security is supposed to work.

The real lesson: a firewall you install once and forget about isn't protecting you anymore. It needs to be patched, monitored, and managed like everything else in your environment.
