đźš’ Throwback Thursday đźš’

Before the new apparatus, before the upgrades, and before the growth, there was a dedicated group of men and women who answered the call and built the foundation of what Waugh-Mount Meigs Fire/Rescue is today.

These photos capture a piece of our history, showcasing some of the early members and apparatus that proudly served our community. Their commitment, sacrifice, and countless hours of volunteer service helped shape the department we know today.

As we look back, we honor those who came before us and thank them for their dedication to protecting the Waugh-Mount Meigs community.

Congratulations to Alma J. Bowen!

Waugh-Mount Meigs Fire/Rescue and the entire volunteer fire service community have reason to celebrate as Alma J. Bowen was honored with the 2026 Sherry Garner Memorial Award by the Alabama Association of Volunteer Fire Departments (AAVFD).

The Sherry Garner Memorial Award is one of Alabama’s most respected honors in the volunteer fire service. It was established in memory of Sherry K. Garner, who was the first female firefighter in Alabama to die in the line of duty and the first woman from Alabama honored at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial. The award recognizes volunteer firefighters who have demonstrated exceptional service, leadership, dedication, and commitment to their department, community, and the State of Alabama beyond normal expectations.

Alma Bowen’s recognition is especially historic, as she is believed to be the first Black recipient of the Sherry Garner Memorial Award.

Congratulations, Alma Bowen, on this well-deserved honor. Thank you for your unwavering commitment, selfless service, and for paving the way for future generations of firefighters. 🚒🏆🔥
