From the F-35 mission at Dannelly Field to the next generation of aviation training at Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery continues to play a critical role in our national defense! 🇺🇸

Today’s Washington Brief: A Conversation with the Montgomery River Region’s Wing Commanders brought together business, military, and community leaders for an important discussion on mission readiness, future growth, infrastructure investments, and the people who make it all possible.

We were honored to hear from Colonel Michael L. Gallucci, Colonel John D. Caldwell & Colonel Shane M. Devlin, with 2026 Chamber Chairman Robert Birmingham moderating the conversation.

A powerful takeaway was the importance of Montgomery & the River Region’s designation as a Great American Defense Community. As our commanders emphasized, this recognition is more than an honor. It represents an ongoing commitment to supporting our military installations, service members, and their families!

Thank you to our wing commanders for their leadership, service, and continued partnership in strengthening our region’s military missions.

I have issued a state of emergency for 40 counties.

Forecasts continue to show the real likelihood that the tropical system brewing in the Gulf could impact Alabama as a hurricane as early as Friday.

While I hope for minimal impacts, we must take preparations seriously.

🚧 Big progress for a transformational project in the Montgomery Region!

Yesterday, our Chamber team had the opportunity to visit the future site of the Alabama Port Authority Montgomery Inland Rail Port and see construction moving forward firsthand, including the lifts being installed that will help move containers between rail and truck. We also enjoyed visiting with Brian Doyle, the port’s General Manager who is helping bring this major project to life.

The Montgomery Inland Rail Port will strengthen our region’s connection to global markets through the Port of Mobile, expand transportation options for our manufacturers and industries, and further position Montgomery as a strategic hub for business, logistics, and investment. This is the kind of infrastructure that strengthens our competitive advantage, creates new opportunities across the region, and builds the foundation for continued economic growth. 🚆🏗️

And as an added treat during our visit, we got to see F-35s flying overhead, a pretty incredible reminder of the many industries, assets and opportunities that make the Montgomery Region so unique! ✈️

Big news! Montgomery Regional Chamber has received a grant from the GE Aerospace Foundation.

This investment by the GE Aerospace Foundation gives us an important opportunity to strengthen how we approach workforce development across the region. We have strong employers, education and training providers, and workforce partners doing good work, but our greatest opportunity is connecting those efforts around the needs of our industries.

The Chamber will bring partners together, strengthen the regional workforce pipeline and make it easier for people to see and access the career opportunities being created here. This critical work will support our existing industries and prepare our region for continued growth.

We are grateful for this investment and for the confidence the GE Aerospace Foundation has placed in our region and in the work we are doing together to build the workforce our industries need.

Montgomery and the River Region are helping drive Alabama’s momentum as one of the nation’s top states for business!

Since 2022, the Montgomery region has announced more than $4.8 billion in capital investment and approximately 3,950 jobs, strengthening our position as a competitive destination for advanced manufacturing, technology, data infrastructure, military and defense, and other growing industries.

That momentum comes as Area Development magazine ranks Alabama No. 7 among the nation’s Top States for Doing Business in 2026, moving up from No. 8 in 2025 and 2024.

From major infrastructure investments and a growing advanced manufacturing base to workforce development, available sites and strong public-private partnerships, Montgomery and the River Region continue to turn Alabama’s competitive advantages into real economic growth.

As Alabama competes for the next generation of investment, Montgomery is positioned to play a significant role in what comes next.
