This posting is for those interested in the scientific study of deception management, lie detection and reading people.
All my work is based on scientific peer reviewed research, personal experience and work with other experts.
After I retired, I debated on continuing the deception management page or not. My 30 years of research led me to realize lie detection for serious purposes is too inexact and contains many weaknesses. Although law enforcement and government agencies continue seeking perfection in lie detection, my years of research and the thousands of research articles do not support that as the best use of this information. As I no longer teach the deception college course I am considering simply sharing that information as a part of this page.
Aside for detecting lies there are many alternatives for making use of this information. A primary example is "RIPA: Rapid Identification of Potential Aggression." RIPA was designed for hospital emergency department personnel in identifying clientele escalating anger before it reaches a full-blown autonomic nervous system activation and explosive behavior. Early intervention can inhibit escalating to aggressive action. So based on responses I will either operate this page for those seeking to learn, volunteering my expertise or I will eliminate this page altogether.
I will check back for responses from which I will make my determination.
Be well and safe!
