Our thoughts and prayers for our brothers and sisters at Petersburg Volunteer Fire Company as they celebrate the life of one of the pillars of their department, John Helmick. Rest In Peace Sir, we have it from here.

**Service Information**

Visitation will be Saturday, June 27th at 12n, the Service will follow at 1pm at Schaeffer Funeral Home.

It is with great sadness that the Petersburg Volunteer Fire Company announces the passing of Lifetime Member John Helmick.

John dedicated 51 years of service to our department and was always there whenever he was needed. His commitment to PVFC went far beyond responding to calls. Every year, while he was still working, John made sure we had the supplies needed for our annual bash, helping behind the scenes to ensure its success. His dedication, dependability, and support of our organization will never be forgotten.

John's presence will be missed tremendously by all of us. His contributions to our department and our community have left a lasting impact that will be remembered for generations.

Our sincere thoughts and prayers are with Nancy and the entire Helmick family during this difficult time.

The Petersburg Volunteer Fire Company will be honoring John with a Fireman's Funeral. Additional service information will be posted as it becomes available.

Rest easy, John. Thank you for your 51 years of service and dedication.

What builds a firetruck?🚒 So much more than a truck goes into making the apparatus that rolls into your time of need. Every truck has minimum equipment standards from state and national authorities that must be met before it can ever be placed in service.

Not to many years ago, equipment from one truck would not be reused on a new apparatus. It would often be placed on other trucks, or into storage and new equipment would be bought. With the price of equipment and tools these days, Company 46 has determined to reuse as much equipment as possible on Ladder 46. This decision saves us thousands of dollars in donations and operating capital to be used for other needs.

While the boys are out making sure Ladder 46 is fit for duty. Members are at the station cleaning, servicing and inspecting every piece of equipment to be repurposed. A critical part of that is readily identifying our equipment. With every fire truck in the area having the same equipment on them. It’s important to be able to place things in their right place.
