I typically made things around the house that my wife had an idea for. One day I saw a picture of a cutting board that a friend of mine had made. I was amazed at how beautiful it was (it was made out of zebrawood). And that, simply stated, is how this small, local business started. One board turned into many, many more! There are over forty different species of wood that I work with. I utilize ha
rdwoods that have a specific hardness rating ensuring that the boards will last, clean up easily and provide a great quality tool in your kitchen. The woods are selected by comparing to the Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species (CITES), an international group focused on the conservation of plant and wood species. No woods used are from the most restrictive tier of the CITES Appendices. There are two types of cutting boards – long grain and end grain (aka butcher block). A long grain board uses the face or edge grain of the wood as the cutting surface. These boards produce nice straight lines with varying widths of wood adding to a unique style. End grain boards are the crème de la crème of cutting boards. The wood is oriented so that the cutting surface is the end grain or where you can see the rings of the tree. The build process takes considerably more time and material. The end results provide an endless display of wood patterns and styles. These boards are preferred by chefs as they are better at keeping the blades of the knife sharp. Included with every board is a homemade board conditioner composed of a food grade mineral oil and beeswax from another locally owned business, Sweet Wings Honey Bee Farm. Whether long or end, I hope that you enjoy the board! If you have an idea for a project, please reach out to me.
