Today, the Morgantown Fire Department attended the happy feet shoe drive at Morgantown elementary school. As back to school season starts for our students, teachers, and parents we ask for everyone to help us keep our community safe for our students. Here are some ways you can make sure our students have a safe commute to and from school.
1. Watch for students walking to and from school in intersections and sidewalks.
2. Obey the posted school zone speed limit.
3. Stop for school busses when stop sign is extended out.

Over this holiday weekend make sure to keep in mind heat safety and lookout for yourself and others.
Tips:
- Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle
- Wear lightweight and light colored clothing
- Drink plenty of fluids
- Know the signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke, if someone becomes confused, loses consciousness, or has a high body temperature, call 911 immediately.

Expect Extra Traffic Enforcement During Fourth of July Holiday

If you're traveling this Fourth of July weekend, expect to see more law enforcement on area roadways.

The Kentucky State Police will increase traffic enforcement July 2-5 as part of Operation C.A.R.E. (Crash Awareness Reduction Effort), a nationwide campaign aimed at reducing crashes and removing impaired drivers from the road during one of the busiest travel weekends of the year.

Troopers will conduct periodic traffic safety checkpoints at approved locations and increase patrols in areas with a history of traffic crashes. Officers will use radar, laser and saturation patrols to enforce traffic laws and promote safer travel throughout the holiday weekend.

Enforcement efforts will focus on:
* Seat belt and occupant protection laws
* Driving under the influence (DUI) and impaired driving
* Driver's license and registration violations
* Vehicle equipment and safety violations

"While the Fourth of July is a cause for celebration, please do so responsibly," said KSP Captain Robert Purdy. "Each year, far too many lives are lost in preventable collisions. We want everyone to enjoy the holiday and make it home safely."

According to the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety, 91 people were killed in alcohol-related traffic crashes across Kentucky in 2025, accounting for nearly 14 percent of all traffic fatalities in the state.

KSP encourages everyone celebrating Independence Day to:

* Choose a designated driver before celebrating.
* Speak up if someone is about to drive impaired.
* Encourage friends and family to stay the night or arrange a safe ride home.
* Set a good example by never driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

If you suspect an impaired driver, call 911 or contact the Kentucky State Police.

The Morgantown Fire Department would like to wish everyone a happy and safe 4th of July.
As we approach the 4th we would like to share some helpful tips to keep you and your family safe over the holiday.
1. Stay hydrated during the heat, hot conditions with heat indexes in the 100’s are expected throughout the rest of the week, drink plenty of water and take breaks in the shade periodically.
2. Handle fireworks with caution, by making sure you are not lighting fireworks around dry brush piles or dry grass, and of course use them the way they are intended.
3. Arrive alive, don’t drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Thursday, May, 7th, members of the Morgantown Fire Department, in conjunction with the daughters of the American revolution took time to honor some of our longest serving members. Ronnie and Stevie Givens have 100 exemplary years of combined service to the citizens of Morgantown and Butler County. The Morgantown Fire department extends our deepest gratitude to the daughters of the American revolution for hosting this special event.
