Crossland Community Church is honored to host our first annual HERO’S DAY to recognize and thank the men and women who serve our communities by being our first responders — Firefighters, Law Enforcement, EMS, and Military, both active and retired.

Every day, you answer the call. You step into situations most of us run from. You sacrifice your time, your safety, and sometimes much more, so that our families and communities can be safer.

We may never be able to fully repay you for what you do, but we can say THANK YOU.

Morgantown, it’s fire prevention week and we would like to share some helpful tips to keep you and your family safe. Please share and take time to read these tips.

1. Keep space heaters atleast 3 feet away from walls, and never leave them unattended for long periods of time.

2. Make a home escape plan for fires, know a way out of every bedroom in your home and create an outdoor meeting place for your family. Practice the plan at least twice every year.

3. GET OUT AND STAY OUT, never go back into a burning building for people, pets, or personal belongings.

4. Make sure your house number is visible from the road so firefighters can see your house.

5. Keep your dryer lint trap and vent clean.

This remains under effect until formally lifted.

The City of Morgantown has issued a temporary burn ban, effective September 8, 2026, due to current conditions and increased fire risk.

The ban will remain in effect until rescinded by the Mayor.

Be mindful residents of Morgantown, the city remains under a burn ban.

September 20, 2026
Camper Fire on 122 Smith Hill Dr.

At approximately 2:33 PM. Sunday, Morgantown City Fire Department was dispatched to 122 Smith Hill Dr for a reported camper fire.

Engine 1 arrived on scene at 2:38
Firefighters arrived to find a fully involved fire. Upon arrival, suppression crews from Engine 1 worked with attack line to bring the fire under control.

The fire was quickly brought under control by Engine 1, and mutual aid from 5th district fire department. With no injuries to firefighters, or home occupants.

Crews cleared the scene at approximately 3:44

The camper sustained significant fire damage.

Morgantown Fire Department is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team of volunteer firefighters!

Do you want to serve your community, learn valuable skills, and be part of something bigger? Now’s your chance!

Requirements for Applicants:

Must be 18 years of age or older

Must possess a valid driver’s license

Must live in Butler County

Must pass a background check

Must complete a department application

No prior fire experience required – we will train you!

Application Process:

After submitting an application, applicants must attend a minimum of three department meetings before being eligible for appointment.

Once appointed, new members enter a three-month probationary period, during which they will attend training, participate in department activities, and demonstrate their commitment.

After completing probation, members become full firefighters with access to training opportunities and department privileges.

Today, the Morgantown Fire Department attended the happy feet shoe drive at Morgantown elementary school. As back to school season starts for our students, teachers, and parents we ask for everyone to help us keep our community safe for our students. Here are some ways you can make sure our students have a safe commute to and from school.
1. Watch for students walking to and from school in intersections and sidewalks.
2. Obey the posted school zone speed limit.
3. Stop for school busses when stop sign is extended out.
