Dirty hands & polished gold ✨ Some studio scenes from the last week including a small gold cast I did and a couple of custom rings in the works.
Swipe to the end to see what $5100 of 24k gold looks like. I’ve decided I like buying fine gold grain so I can add alloy and make whatever carat I need: 10k, 14k or 18k.

A unique way to share your love: a sand casting session! I am digging teaching sand casting workshops in my studio. It is so fun to see people get totally delighted by the process and witness the magic of making something out of nothing. In three hours you learn the basics of sand casting from setting up the mold, melting and pouring metal and then finishing the ring or pendant you cast. No prior jewelry experience is required.
These workshops are great solo to scratch your creative itch but also a super sweet way to make memories with your partner, a family member or best friend. We also offer couple’s wax carving and sand casting workshops if you’re interested in making your own wedding bands.
These classes are now available to book on my website with workshops taking place Friday-Monday in my high-desert studio near Joshua Tree.
Happy Valentine’s Day! ❤️

Tucson Gem Show Part 2: What I brought home! I was like a kid in a candy store with zero self control. If I had more money I would have brought home even more 🫣 The videos show the stones in different natural lighting. Reach out if you are interested in having anything made with any of these stones!
Slides -
1 & 2: these are some super fine, eye clean grey/blue Spinels from Ocua, Mozambique. They are perfectly cut and polished, flawless and shift colors depending on the light going from a steely grey to blue or even sometimes green. Under UV light 365nm they glow green. These are all around 1.1-1.2 carats. I am utterly obsessed with these stones, not a purchase I planned on making but I didn’t want to pass up the opportunity for these unique beauties! They would make an awesome alternative engagement ring.
3 & 4: Montana and Nigerian Sapphires. Several parti variety with green and blue zoning. And there is that one golden brown round sapphire I couldn’t pass up!
5: A lovely warm antique diamond, .51 carats transitional cut (Art Deco 1920s-1940s) and a multi-toned blue Montana Sapphire (sold)
6 & 7: Zircons! A parcel of brown cushion cuts and a few brighter zircons in fun colors and cuts.
8 & 9: A chunky, brown beautifully cut Malawi garnet and a couple small ruby hearts ❤️
10. Gorgeous sapphire melee in rounds, pears and ovals. All are Montana Sapphires except for the bottom right small rounds which are Australian sapphires
11. Some inexpensive sapphires. They’re not perfect but they’re great for casting in place or using with silver!
I got a few more things like emerald and ruby melee and re-upped on some rainbow sapphire melee too. Excited to make some new jewelry with these beauties! Get in touch if anything is calling your name.

Another Tucson Gem Show in the books! I brought my daughter on this trip with me because she is really cool and fun and I knew she would love Tucson. Astrid is such a champ, hanging at six different gem shows with me including some booths where I spent 1.5 hours or more sorting through stones. The vendors loved her. We saw so many beautiful gems; sapphires, tourmalines and garnets are her favorites. We may have a budding gemologist on our hands, she is planning to do some of the GIA online education for kids. 💎 We did get kicked out of GJX because she wasn’t 14+, their loss! We also made time for enjoying nature and eating great food. There is never enough time or money for Tucson but it’s always an inspiring, exhausting, and fun time. I can’t wait to share what I brought home with me!

I am headed to Tucson this weekend for gem show sourcing! I love shopping for inspiring gems in person. I still have regret I didn’t get one of those Citrine hearts in the first slide two years ago 🤦🏻♀️
My color palette will be greens, pinks and blues (maybe a little yellow too!) like in the second slide. Please reach out ASAP if you are interested in having me source a gem for a custom piece. I am booking custom protects for the spring. Follow our stories this weekend for gem show finds when I remember to post.
Tomorrow we will be abstaining from commerce and running ads or posting. 😘

Silver hit a historic high today at $101/ozt and yesterday at $96/ozt. Gold also hit a historic high of $4989 before pulling back a smidge.
For more context on this historic rally, see the video I posted yesterday. I said I was going to raise my prices today but I would prefer to work on waxes today so I will hold off on the price increase until next week so you have the weekend to shop current prices! ❤️
Now is also an excellent time to go through your jewelry box and look for silver and gold that you don’t wear anymore or that you inherited. I can work with you to create new jewelry from your existing metal. I am also going to Tucson next week to source gems 💎 If you are looking for something special and want me to source it for you, get in touch!

TLDR: with the surging price of silver and gold jewelers all over the world are raising prices, including me.
Tomorrow I will be adjusting the prices of gold and silver to account for the current market price of silver at $96/ozt and gold at $4900/ozt.
Precious metals are forecast to continue to rise over the next year. It’s best to think about your jewelry as an investment and a way to store value and mark milestones and memories. Silver is now a rare earth mineral and there is a global shortage of it due to increasing demands in the world of solar technology and electronics and central banks storing it as hedge against the US dollar. It takes years for mines to scale their mining operations so the price of silver is likely never going back down below $30 per troy ounce!
Any questions? Feel free to ask!

First gold casting of the year! The Sun Tarot Ring in 14k 🌞 We all know the price of gold (and silver) is insane right now but when I do get to work with gold, it is such a pleasure. It casts absolutely beautifully and polishes so easily. I’m in love and so proud to be able to create beautiful, heirloom jewelry from start to finish under my own roof with my two hands. ✌️
I’d love to know everyone’s thoughts - are you investing or planning to invest in gold and silver jewelry right now or holding off? Are you preferring brass and fashion jewelry given the high prices of precision metals? I’m genuinely curious to know what everyone is thinking and feeling right now about jewelry and current metal pricing and whether I should consider bringing back more styles in brass or sticking to my original goal of working with precious metals.

It kind of feels surreal that I’m turning 40 on Saturday. That means Dea Dia has been a part of my life for 15 years. That also means that my annual Birthday S-A-L-E is starting soon! If you’re new here, it is my biggest one of the year! 🦋 You can sign up for our emails or texts to be notified when it goes live. With the prices of metal surging, it’s the perfect opportunity to add to your collection before I need to reprice my work.
These lovely silver jewels were recently handmade and sent with love to our Sausalito stockist .

Hi, I’m Jessica Lawson, the mind, body & soul behind the brand, wife to Matthew and mother to Astrid.
Since you're here, I'm guessing you are a rebel and an outcast, I mean badass and I feel you. Being on the outside was an important factor in asserting my independence as a designer and entrepreneur. Starting this company was a way to go confidently into my dreams and be an autonomous individual.
When I founded Dea Dia out of my Brooklyn apartment in 2011, I had a small idea that basically exploded and took me to some unexpected and far out places. I quit a boring dead-end job and was soon traveling across the country selling my jewels, partnering with boutiques and even opened my own store in Portland (RIP).
Through all the ups and downs, I pride myself on being a self taught artist with zero formal training in art, design or fabrication. In the course of a year and a half, I went from wannabe journalist to jewelry designer and turned my hobby into my full-time job. Making my own way in the world has been a transformative process and experiencing the small successes I had early on helped me reframe my story and has allowed me the freedom to wake up with passion to do something that I really love.
Aside from jewels, I am a lover of travel, classic & underground rock, fine art, architecture and the beach. These loves influence my life and my life’s work. I am a Missouri native and have lived in Chicago, New York City, Berlin, Portland, OR and now Los Angeles where I live in a downtown artist's loft with my family and business.
As an indie designer I am so honored to forge my own path and to create jewelry for beautiful people like you. My loyal customers inspire me to no end and I am forever grateful that you have chosen to include Dea Dia on your journey.
Everything you see on this website was designed, created/fabricated and assembled by me, my two hands and, let’s be honest, I probably used my mouth as a third hand.
All Dea Dia jewelry is proudly created in my Downtown Los Angeles live/work loft. I source materials from local vendors wherever possible and work with a woman-owned casting business in DTLA who uses recycled metal for my cast pieces. When I can’t find what I need in Los Angeles, I work with US-based companies that manufacture stateside and employ American workers. It’s in these details I feel that shopping small can make a big impact.
