We are incredibly grateful for the efforts being made by the Pequannock High School Safe Driving Club as they take on the 2026–2027 Move Over Law Campaign and help bring greater awareness to the importance of slowing down and moving over for roadside workers and first responders. 💛🖤
Their students are taking this initiative far beyond simply learning the law. They are working to understand what New Jersey’s Move Over Law requires, hearing directly from police, EMS, firefighters, tow truck operators, and other crash responders, spreading awareness throughout their school and community, and encouraging drivers to slow down, move over, and give those working along our roadways the space they need to make it home safely.
They have also just sent out a survey to their student body and community asking what people currently know about the Move Over Law, why they believe drivers do not follow it, and what they think could be done to make more people aware of the law. The information gathered will help students better understand where the gaps in awareness are and how they can help make a difference.
Pequannock is also working alongside Ron & Sons Towing and to bring real life experiences and education directly to young drivers, including an upcoming assembly where Ron & Son’s will speak at their school on behalf of the Slow Down Move Over movement and ’s story!
This is exactly why starting with our younger drivers is so important. These are students who are beginning to drive, preparing to drive, or riding with friends who are getting behind the wheel. Educating them now gives us an opportunity to create safer habits from the very beginning.
DJ was only 24 years old when he lost his life while working roadside. His story is now helping educate the next generation of drivers and reminding them that behind every flashing light is a person, a family member, a friend, and someone who deserves to make it home.
We cannot thank Pequannock High School and the Safe Driving Club enough for taking this mission seriously and putting real effort behind creating change in their school and community.
Move Over. Slow Down. Save a Life.
