I’ve seen several of them just like this and worse. I wonder if  the infection caused the horse to go septic thus causing its death?

Really proud of the saddle, gone through by Randall Ivie. This is a Herford saddle made in the 70s. It fits me and many horses well, but it was falling apart and Randall completely went through it. That included putting new fleece underneath. Extremely happy with his craftsmanship, dedication to quality and his character. I highly recommend him for any leather work, including boots and chaps. Thank you Randall!
