Now since we have more activity occurring at Shimer Square, it's a good time to give a refresher on who to contact.

Shimer Square Apartments is managed by Ironhold Asset Management. Inquiries on leasing, should go to (217) 345-2414 or Shimer Square Apartments page. The on-site property manager is only responsible for the management of the apartments, tenant inquiries, and apartment maintenance.

Honey Bee Child Development Center at Shimer Square is operated by 4-C: Community Coordinated Child Care. Inquiries on anything childcare related, should go to (815) 902-1079 or Honey Bee Child Development Center at Shimer Square page. The on-site program director is housed at the Honey Bee Child Development Center, 205 E. Seminary Street.

The campus overall and future development initiatives are handled by the Development Office, and all inquiries should go to (309) 794-6711 or email [email protected].

🙋‍♂️Do projects like these take time? 100%.
🙋Do they take longer than we'd all like sometimes? 1000%.

These initiatives require significant time, and while progress may not always be visible, work continues behind the scenes.

Enrollment begins next week, September 8-11, 2026, at Honey Bee Child Development Center at Shimer Square, 205 E. Seminary Street, Mount Carroll, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily.

Families may pick up enrollment packets, ask questions, and learn more about available child care services.

A Special Enrollment Event will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Visitors will have an opportunity to tour the center, meet staff, obtain enrollment materials, learn about child care assistance programs, and receive help with the application process.

The center's first day of care is scheduled for September 21, 2026. ⚠️Operating hours will be Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Honey Bee will initially serve children ages 2 to 3 and 4 to 5 years old. Additional classrooms will open as staff background checks are completed and approved.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be scheduled on a separate date, to be announced.

🐝While we wait, now is a great time to gather the documents needed to help make the enrollment process smooth and efficient. See Honey Bee's post for more details.
