Running a small business right now hits a little differently.

It’s no longer just about offering a great product or service. Most days, it feels like we’re expected to be tech gurus, cybersecurity experts, and financial wizards all at once.

Lately, I’ve been talking to so many owners who are trying to juggle:

• The AI Boom: How do we use it to save time without losing that personal, human touch our customers love?
• The Tech Headaches: Keeping our data safe from crazy cyber threats.
• The Wallet Squeeze: Guarding our profit margins against stubborn inflation.
• The New Workplace: Managing and motivating hybrid or flexible teams.

It is a lot. And because it’s our business, the stakes are personal. Our income, our lifestyle, and our family’s security are all tied to it.

When you’re stuck in the daily grind, it’s incredibly hard to step back and actually see where the gaps—and the best opportunities—are.

That’s exactly why I put together a quick, 10-minute diagnostic tool.

My Business Success Checklist is designed to help you quickly uncover the hidden operational and financial blind spots holding you back. No fluff, no textbook theories—just a clear roadmap to help you reclaim your profit, your control, and honestly, your personal freedom.

How to use it:
1️⃣ Download the checklist. It’s an interactive spreadsheet, so your scores calculate automatically and generate a clean visual graph of your business health!
2️⃣ Take 10 minutes to complete the diagnostic.
3️⃣ Pick just 3–4 high-impact strategies to implement over the next 60–90 days.

Small, intentional shifts lead to massive results. Let’s get your business working for you again.

Are you trapped by your own autonomy?

As small business owners, we cherish our freedom. But when you answer to no one, it becomes dangerously easy to fall into a few common habits:

#1 - The Procrastination Loop (delaying big moves for daily fires)
#2 - Shiny Object Syndrome (getting stuck in the weeds trying to do every idea)
#3 - The Detour Habit (letting distractions hijack your solid plan)

If any of these sound like your day-to-day life, I want you to take a deep breath. You are not alone, and you don’t have to carry the weight of your business by yourself.

Knowing your strategy is one thing—executing it while running the daily show is a completely different ballgame. Let's talk about what structured, non-judgmental accountability looks like and how a true growth partner can get you back on track.

Just read Jared Kugel’s incredible journey on Inc. Magazine —from facing foreclosure to building a $150M empire with Tire Agent. A great takeaway … “If you are the same business tomorrow that you are today, you won’t survive.” Love the quote but more important Kugel teaches us that a willingness to change can be a great competitive advantage. He didn't marry his initial idea; he married the problem he wanted to solve. Don’t let pride lock you into a failing strategy. If the market is telling you that it's time to pivot, listen.

Running a small business in the age of AI can feel a little overwhelming. If machines can do things faster and cheaper, what’s left for us?

I just read a great piece from Fast Company that put it perfectly: Machines optimize the known, but humans create what has not existed before. As business owners, we aren't just "task managers"—we are the heart and soul of our brands.

Here are 3 key takeaways that every entrepreneur should keep in mind:

1. Vision is our biggest advantage (VQ) AI is trained on the past. It looks at what has already happened to predict what’s next. But as a small business owner, you have a Vision Quotient. You see possibilities where others see roadblocks. You create for a future that doesn't have data yet.

2. Work is about ownership, not just volume (WQ) Ex*****on is rare. Anyone can have an idea, but the gap is filled by those willing to do the unglamorous work for a long time. Your "Work Quotient" isn't about how many emails you send; it’s about your commitment to the outcome and knowing when something "feels wrong" even if the data says it’s fine.

3. The "Rare Combination" is the goal The leaders who thrive won't just be the smartest (IQ) or the most polished (EQ). They will be the ones who can hold all five:
• IQ: Understanding complexity.
• EQ: Connecting with your team and customers.
• TQ: Building lasting trust.
• WQ: Executing with discipline.
• VQ: Imagining a future others can't see yet.

AI might help us work faster, but it can’t replace the courage it takes to build a dream from scratch.

Which of these feels most important in your business right now?

You know about IQ and EQ. But what about TQ, WQ, and VQ?

Are you owning your business... or is it owning you?

Building a truly "valuable" business isn't just about the dollar amount of your last sale. It’s about building an asset that is attractive to others and sustainable for you. Whether you want to sell in five years or just want to attend your kid’s soccer game without your phone buzzing, these three things matter:

#1 - The "Vacation Test”. Could you step away for a month? If the answer is "no," your value is tied to your presence, not your process. Real value lives in documented systems and a team that feels empowered to lead while you’re gone.

#2 - Don't Put All Your Eggs in One Basket. High revenue is a rush, but "diverse" revenue is a safety net. If one big client or one specific supplier holds the keys to your success, it’s a risk. A business with recurring revenue and a broad customer base is much more bankable (and a lot less stressful!).

#3 - Your Books Should Tell a Story. Beyond just "doing the taxes," do your financials show a clear path of healthy margins and scalability? Clean books prove that your business isn't just surviving—it’s built to grow.

Building value is a journey, and honestly? It’s a marathon, not a sprint. But it’s the only way to turn a "job" into a "legacy."

Time for a pulse check: Which of these feels like the biggest hurdle for you right now?

Small Business Owners: Is "good enough" killing your growth?

With National Small Business Week just around the corner, I’ve been thinking about the one thing that truly separates the "survivors" from the "thrivers."

Hint: It’s not a bigger budget. It’s radical specialization. If you're competing on price or convenience, you're playing the big guys' game. But if you own a specific, "extremely narrow" space, you become irreplaceable.

I’m sharing this article today because it changes the way we think about growth. It’s not about doing more; it’s about doing your thing better than anyone else.

Are you ready to go narrow? Read the full breakdown here: https://www.fastcompany.com/91448132/why-small-businesses-must-go-narrow-extremely-narrow-to-survive

The path to success runs through radical specialization.

Are you so busy doing the work that you don’t have time to actually grow your business?

It’s a common trap for small business owners! We start as experts in our craft, but it’s so easy to get stuck as the "worker" instead of the "architect."

If you’re looking to reclaim your time and finally see those profits climb, these 5 skills are total game-changers:

✅ Strategic Adaptability ✅ Modern Systems & Automation ✅ Empathy-First Leadership ✅ Connection-Based Marketing ✅ Financial Stewardship

Why I’m treating AI like a smart intern (and you should too). 💡

As small business owners, we’re all looking for ways to do more with less. But I recently hit on a piece of advice from . Magazine that changed how I look at my tech stack:

"Treat AI like a smart but inexperienced intern: useful, but in need of supervision."

This is the most grounded take I’ve seen yet.

AI is a total powerhouse for clearing "blank page syndrome," drafting emails, and brainstorming marketing ideas. But it lacks the one thing that keeps our businesses running: Professional Accountability. 🤝

Whether it’s legal, financial, business or tax advice, AI is a tool—not a replacement for the experts we trust.

My Takeaway: Use AI to do the heavy lifting on your first drafts, but never take your hand off the wheel. It’s the ultimate assistant, but in your business, YOU are still the Chief Editor.

I’m curious—how are you balancing AI speed with human oversight in your daily workflow? Are you using it for content, or maybe just to organize your to-do list? Let’s swap notes in the comments! 👇
