Did you know that wasps can build their nests in your home? Often times during the spring, when the queens are looking for a new place to nest, they will make their way into cracks and holes in the exterior of your house. From there they will proceed to wreak havoc on the interior of your walls. As the wasp nest grows in both size and population it will become damp because the wasps produce waste. This dampness will then go on to weaken the materials in your ceiling and walls which could cause a sizable hole resulting in wasps entering your living space which is quite possibly the worst case scenario.
Many species of wasp are capable of chewing through structures such as wood and drywall. They may do this in order to lay new eggs, make room for nest expansion, or to access the heat in your home or attic.
If you’re coming across wasps frequently in your back yard or even in your home, then no, you probably aren’t seeing things. If you suspect that wasps have made a nest inside your home, try to follow their flight path. Groups of wasps will leave the nest at the same time to scavenge for food, and they need to bring it back to the same place feed the queen and their young.
Usually, you’ll be able to see the telltale signs of a wasp nest. If they’ve made their way inside, there’s also a chance that you’ll actually be able to hear the sound of them buzzing in your ceiling.
