Now more than ever we find ourselves with an aging population that is underserved and underprepared. From senior living communities to in-home solutions, and even finances, our parents and grandparents are inundated with 100s of companies vying for their attention - and dollars. Generations of tradition and art. Karen is making a beautiful family and local tradition all her own. 💛

This week’s Local Spotlight is Karen Smalls-Horlback of The Momma Maddie’s Brand! 🧺

Karen learned the Southern art of sweetgrass basket weaving from her grandmother and mother, and she carries that family tradition into her work today—with colorful touches and a creative style all her own.

And if you’ve ever sat down with Karen, you know: it feels like catching up with an old friend. Her warmth makes us love the person behind these beautiful pieces just as much as the work itself. 💕

This week, we’re sharing her handmade sweetgrass keyrings with our local professional community. A little piece of the Lowcountry, made by a neighbor, with a family story woven in. 🔑💙

🎨 Meet our incredibly talented neighbor, Jane Pelland! Jane Pelland

Jane is a self-taught watercolor artist whose breathtaking work celebrates the tiny, intricate details of the natural world. She’s a member of several prestigious national illustration and botanical art organizations, has had her work featured in galleries and publications, and spent years pouring into young people as a beloved teacher and Writing Coordinator at Ashley Hall School 💛

And somehow, as beautiful as Jane’s art is, her soul may be even more beautiful. 💕

This week, we’re honored to share three cards featuring Jane’s artwork with our community — a little piece of Lowcountry beauty created by a truly remarkable neighbor. 🌿🎨

Sometimes the best stories start at bedtime. 💛

Local author Mary Hamilton began making up stories for her first-responder-obsessed little boys — and those bedtime adventures eventually became the inspiration for her children’s books. 🚒🚓

This Spotlight is especially close to my heart because Mary happens to be my sister… and those little boys are my nephews. 🥹

Swipe to see us many Halloweens ago, when their first-responder obsession was already going strong — one police officer and one firefighter pup. 👮🏽🧑🏽‍🚒🐾❤️ Little did we know it would someday inspire their mom to become a published author!

This is what our **Support Local** campaign is all about: celebrating the people in our community who are creating something meaningful right here at home.
