As part of our April 22, 2026 Auction, BIC Auctions is honored to host the Complete Retirement Auction of Klever Concrete, Inc. Selling a large quantity of concrete forms, power & hand tools, surveying equipment, gas cut-off saws, plate compactor, power trowel, concrete buggy, skid steer, trucks, trailers and much more out of Independence, Iowa!
Jim Klever started Klever Concrete, Inc. in 1989 after a simple but telling moment: the phone at home wouldn't stop ringing. After years working for another concrete contractor in the area, the demand from customers eager to have their project start made it clear - it was time for Jim to start something of his own.
He started lean, with nothing more than a pickup truck and hand tools, taking on a wide range of work spanning concrete and carpentry. Over time, the focus shifted where the expertise was strongest, and the business evolved into a specialized concrete construction company built on craftsmanship and reliability.
The defining moment came in 1995 when Klever Concrete was awarded the complete concrete scope for a new Burger King development coming to town. Some doubted whether a small crew could handle a project of that scale. The finished work spoke for itself. That project opened doors to larger commercial contracts, including significant work for a local saw mill, and eventually led to residential foundations after investing in wall form equipment.
What followed were more than three decades of steady, local growth. House foundations, garage and home additions, farm shop buildings, and commercial slabs that still stand throughout the county - a lasting testament to the work the Klever Concrete team put in year after year. It's rare to drive any road in the area without passing a project they had a hand in.
None of it would have been possible without two things: loyal customers who came back year after year, and a crew of skilled tradespeople who took genuine pride in the quality of their work. Customers noticed and said so, consistently. Several employees stayed with Klever Concrete for more than 20 years before retiring.
Now, after 37 years, Jim Klever has announced his retirement. It's time for the next chapter - to slow down, take on a few personal projects, spend more time with family and grandchildren, and get the boat back on the water for some fishing.
As Klever Concrete, Inc. closes its doors, the legacy left behind is one of hard work, integrity, and craftsmanship that will continue to stand for generations to come. We are pleased to help Jim close out this remarkable chapter and wish him the very best in a well-earned retirement!
