HBA of the Lowcountry Charleston A nonprofit organization building the future of the Lowcountry.

Serving eight counties across the Lowcountry, we advocate for the home building industry through leadership, education, networking, and workforce development. The Charleston Home Builders Association (CHBA) is a 501c-6 nonprofit organization working to promote homeownership in the greater Charleston, SC area through networking, education, advocacy and community outreach. The association provides our local communities with safe, quality and affordable housing and a resource for homeowners to access local industry experts.

HBALC recently hosted Builder Forums with the Towns of Kiawah Island and Mount Pleasant, bringing together local builders, industry professionals, and town officials to discuss important updates impacting residential construction.

From zoning and design review processes in Kiawah Island to tree ordinance updates, permitting improvements, and new technology initiatives in Mount Pleasant, these conversations provided valuable insight into the changes shaping our industry.

A huge congratulations to our CEO, Adrian Cain, on being named the 2025 recipient of NAHB’s David Lloyd New Executive Officer Award!

Presented by the National Association of Home Builders, this award recognizes an executive officer who has made major contributions to association leadership within their first three years in the role.

Since joining HBALC, Adrian has helped lead our association through an exciting period of growth and transition, including the unification of the Charleston and Hilton Head Area home builders associations. His leadership, experience, and commitment to our members continue to help move our association and the home building industry forward across the Lowcountry.

Our team, led by Christine DuRant, HBA’s Chief Policy Officer, has been closely monitoring Charleston County’s proposed changes to its stormwater ordinance.
These changes could have a meaningful impact on our industry, which is why your input is critical right now.

Our Technical Review Committee met earlier today and will be issuing a formal statement by tomorrow morning.

Charleston County is actively seeking feedback on the proposed changes, and the survey closes Monday, September 21.

Please take a few minutes to review the proposed ordinance and submit your feedback. Your voice matters, and this is an important opportunity for our industry to be heard before the County moves forward.

For this month’s Member Spotlight, we’re excited to feature HBA of the Lowcountry members Adam Copenhaver and Ben Copenhaver with CopeGrand Homes, who have been selected to lead a Building Knowledge Session at IBS 2027!

The International Builders’ Show (IBS) is one of the largest annual events for residential construction professionals, bringing together builders, remodelers, designers, suppliers and industry leaders from across the country and around the world.

Adam and Ben will present Delivering the Experience: 5 Proven Processes to Create a Repeatable, High-End Client Journey.

“Client experience” is often treated as a philosophy but top-performing builders know it must be operationalized to be repeatable. During their session, Adam and Ben will share five proven processes that turn communication, expectations and ex*****on into a consistent, scalable client journey.
