As of January 1, 2027, all building departments across South Carolina will officially begin enforcing the 2024 IRC Code for new residential construction and remodeling.

To help keep our industry informed and prepared, we hosted our first IRC Codes Class this past Tuesday at North Charleston City Hall — presented by Andy Barber, owner of Generation Homes and State Codes Council member.

We had 30 attendees registered, including multiple CBOs from across the region. Thank you to everyone who joined us for a great discussion and valuable industry insight.

As the owner of Fisher Recycling and GlassEco Surfaces, Elizabeth is leading the way in sustainable innovation right here in the Lowcountry 🌎🏡. Based in North Charleston, her company transforms recycled glass—much of it collected from local restaurants and hotels—into beautiful, high-quality countertops and surfaces, giving new life to materials that would otherwise go to waste.

Originally from Northern Virginia, Elizabeth has called Charleston home since 1991 and remains deeply connected to the community she serves ❤️. Her work not only supports local businesses but also contributes to a more sustainable future for the region.

The CHBA welcomed a great crowd at the recent Builder Inspector meeting, hosted by North Charleston Government and sponsored by SAFEbuilt. Some key themes emerged:

*Storm water and resiliency continues to drive process. Pay close attention to your site plans to be sure that they complete upon submission.
*Charleston County is now fully digital. Double check to be sure your plans are stamped correctly.
*Towns like Mt. Pleasant now have lists on their websites you can check for common reasons why some site plans aren't immediately approved. Check those before you submit your plans!

For this week’s Project Spotlight: look at what one of our talented CHBA builders just completed in West Ashley, overlooking the Ashley River!

Wando Builders Inc replaced a deteriorating deck with a more durable composite build designed for waterfront conditions, fully renovated the living room and kitchen, and created more functional space.

It's another great example of the caliber of homes our builders create!
