If you're finding tiny holes paired with grainy or fine saw dust like this around your home you may have powder post or false powder post beetles which are very destructive to the supports, beams and siding of your home.

Dampwood Termites! These destructive pests are secondary wood destroying organisms. What that means is they will not infest sound, dry wood. This is why our technicians are constantly looking for any area of the home where the wood has become moisture rich. Once they move into that moisture rich wood, the only way to get rid of them is to replace it. Catching wood rot early is the best way to keep your home free from both dampwood termites and other common wood destroying pests like carpenter ants and moisture ants.

Carpenter ants have been crazy this year! At this house in Oak Harbor they had followed the perimeter of the home, up the corner and into the roof. We hope you’ve never seen this before! On an initial service in Blaine, our technician Miguel noticed an odorous house ant going into the outlet, so he pulled it off to treat the wall void and an entire nest pooped out, eggs and all. Odorous house ants are an invasive species here in Washington. Once they get into the house they build their colonies in wall voids, floor boards, and ceilings (we often see them coming out of light fixtures). They’ll have multiple colonies spread through the home and move between them. The best way to get rid of odorous house ants, a long process, is to maintain the home so they don’t get in in the first place.
