It’s official…summer is here! 😎 I remember being so excited that I would get to stay up in the summer since there was no school. That’s why summer is so magical…not all the rules are followed all the time! But, can kids stay on track with their sleep even during summer? Sure they can & here are some tips!
🖤 Keep it dark: With longer hours of daylight, make sure the room is pitch dark all the time.
🕶 Get outdoors & get active: This will increase melatonin production and help them expend energy & be ready for bed.
🍦Watch the diet: Increased refined carb intake causes poorer sleep for kids. Summer is a time for yummy treats, but make sure they have plenty of healthy snacks too!
😎Stick to the routine (as much as possible): With travel & fun activities it’s not going to be possible to stay completely on track. That’s ok! Instead, follow a couple of late nights with several days and nights of good sleep to catch up & recharge.
📚Start planning for school early on: Not to be a buzzkill …BUT, if bedtime becomes later during summer & it’s not adjusted before school, the first weeks can be brutal! So, just adjust bedtime by pushing it 15 min. earlier every 2 days until you reach the desired bedtime for back to school.
