Back on here after a proper break. Everyone will benefit when Your IVF Doula is recharged ๐Ÿ˜‰
Iโ€™ve been overseas with my family for a month. UK adventures, punting on the Cam, a lot of walking, a lot of thinking.
September is PMOS Awareness Month, Sexual & Reproductive Health Awareness Month, as well as Self-Awareness Month.... a good moment to name out loud what so often gets spoken about too quietly.
So many people are carrying reproductive health struggles quietly.... navigating symptoms, uncertainty, fertility challenges, diagnoses, treatments, loss.... or simply the feeling that something isnโ€™t quite right.

If you are affected and struggling, I see you.
It takes a village to overcome some of lifeโ€™s biggest hurdles. Find your people. Ask the questions. Seek the support. You donโ€™t have to carry all of it alone.

Some of you are quietly trying to squeeze one more thing in before 2026 ends. An egg collection. A transfer. A real conversation with your RE so you can walk into 2027 with a proper plan instead of a knot in your stomach. If youโ€™d like a second set of eyes on that plan.... Iโ€™m all ears.

And a softer note for the season ahead. Fall and the holidays are warm for many families. For those who are unchilded and quietly dreading the questions at the dinner table.... I see you too.

Whether youโ€™d like in-person hand-holding at your next appointment, a virtual session to make sense of your results, or just an informal stress-free conversation to move things forward.... Iโ€™m all ears.

Big virtual hug,
Daria ๐Ÿ’›

Topic of the week: VITRIFICATION. Freezing eggs or embryos? Letโ€™s go โญ๏ธ

Hereโ€™s the thing most people donโ€™t realise about freezing living cells. Itโ€™s not the cold thatโ€™s the danger.
Itโ€™s what the cold can create.
Water inside a cell + deep freeze = ice crystals. And these crystals arenโ€™t soft. Theyโ€™re jagged. Like tiny swords slicing through the delicate structures inside the egg or embryo.
So before we freeze anything, we swap that water out for cryoprotectants. More on how in the next slide ๐Ÿ‘‰

Enter the star of the show. Ethylene glycol.
A tiny molecule that slips inside the cell and takes waterโ€™s place.
Then we add sucrose. Yes, table sugar. Not to sweeten anything, but because sugar pulls water. It draws the last of it out of the cell via osmosis.
By the time weโ€™re ready to plunge into liquid nitrogen? No water left inside ๐Ÿ‘‰

The moment it touches liquid nitrogen, the egg or embryo turns glasslike. Vitreous. Thatโ€™s where the name vitrification comes from.
But hereโ€™s the beautiful part. Every internal structure stays exactly as it was in liquid form ๐Ÿ‘‰

No water = no ice crystals ๐Ÿ‘Œ

โ€œSo the PGT-A result will tell us if our embryo is normal or abnormal right?โ€
Not exactly. ๐Ÿ‘€

When we run PGT-A, we donโ€™t touch the cells that become your baby.
We biopsy the trophectoderm. The outer cells. The ones destined to become the placenta. 5 to 10 cells, from the outside and thatโ€™s the whole sample.
The inner cell mass, that clump of cells in the middle go on to become your baby. We leave them completely alone.
So the result can come back euploid, aneuploid, low mosaic, high mosaic.... or at times inconclusiveโ€ฆ.

In this masterclass I dove into the world of mosaic embryos, how they come about and what the research tells us.
Iโ€™ve biopsied many of these embryos myself. Now I help you understand yours. ๐Ÿ’›

Trust your fertility doctor. They place you on the oral contraceptive pill for a reason. They all want the best outcome for you. Ask questions and know why this protocol was chosen for your particular case.

Infertility and IVF changed the course of my life.

There was a version of me who didnโ€™t know if this would be my story.
Infertility brought emotional and physical challenges I wasnโ€™t prepared for.โ€จThe waiting. The unknown. The quiet moments where you question everything.

IVF became part of my journey to motherhood.โ€จNot just because it helped me become a momโ€ฆโ€จbut because it gave me a deep understanding of what people are really going through behind closed doors.

Now, as an IVF scientist in your pocket, I spend my days supporting individuals and couples navigating infertility, IVF, and embryo transfer decisions.

Becoming mom to these two little humans reminded me in the most personal way that every path to a child is different.
And every story deserves space.โ€จCompassion.โ€จAnd hope. ๐Ÿค

If youโ€™re going through infertility or IVF right nowโ€ฆ I see you.

No one talks about this part.
The empty spaces. The quiet house. The โ€œnot yet.โ€

While everyone else is cleaning up toysโ€ฆ youโ€™re still waiting for your turn.

I see you. I was you.

I was 1 in 6.
Now I support 1 in 6.

And I hope your โ€œnot yetโ€ turns into โ€œfinallyโ€ sooner than you think. โœจ

What can you actually do to improve your chances of a live birth after an embryo transfer?

I get asked this all the time.

So during National Infertility Awareness Week, I took this question straight to Natalie Crawford, double board-certified OB-GYN and Reproductive Endocrinologist.

Because IVF success isnโ€™t just about the transfer day.

Itโ€™s about:
Embryo quality
Uterine environment
Inflammation
Insulin resistance
And asking the right questions before you move forward

IVF can feel overwhelming, especially after failed cycles or when youโ€™re not getting clear answers.

You donโ€™t have to navigate this blindly.

When we freeze embryos in the lab, what are they actually sitting on? ๐Ÿค”
