You know you’ve been in the printing business a long time when you walk into a room and immediately see a four-color process rosette.

Most people would probably just see a colorful pillow.

I see overlapping cyan, magenta, yellow and black—the building blocks behind nearly every full-color printed image.

I spotted this in our new New York City office in the Chrysler Building, and it felt strangely appropriate.

After more than 20 years of running All Print Resources, print has a way of showing up everywhere I look. Now, as we begin this exciting new chapter from one of New York’s most iconic buildings, even the décor seems to understand what we do.

New office. Iconic address. Same commitment to helping our clients bring ambitious ideas to life through print, packaging, direct mail, event graphics and fulfillment.

All Print Resources is officially at home in the Chrysler Building.

This is how a graphic becomes a shirt.

For this project with the Continuo Arts Foundation, we used a heat press to apply custom DTF (Direct-to-Film) transfers to the shirts.

DTF transfers are a great option for detailed graphics, smaller runs, and custom designs without the setup of traditional screen printing.

I stopped and turned around to take this picture on my way to my New York office this morning. It brought me back more than 40 years.

When I first started working with my father, he gave me a piece of advice I didn’t fully appreciate at the time:

“Be nice to the messengers. Otherwise, they won’t deliver your job.”

Back then, messengers were an essential part of our business. No email. No Dropbox. No uploading a file halfway around the world in seconds.

Someone physically had to get your mechanicals, proofs or finished job where it needed to go.

My father’s point wasn’t really about messengers.

It was about people.

Respect the person answering the phone.
Respect the pressman running your job.
Respect the messenger carrying it.
Respect the driver making the delivery.
Respect the person sweeping the floor at the end of the day.

Because every one of them matters.

I turned 60 last month, and I’ve now been running All Print Resources for more than 20 years. Our industry today barely resembles the one I entered with my father.

But standing on this sidewalk this morning, looking at all of these printed pieces scattered across the ground, I found myself thinking about him and that lesson.

Technology changes.
Businesses change.
Industries change.

How you treat people shouldn’t.
