I came across these stainless steel puzzle pieces while looking through some of our older project photos. I'm not sure what these particular pieces were ultimately used for, but they reminded me of something we've learned over the years: 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴.

Artists are another important part of our business. Over the years, we've made laser-cut metal components for jewelry, sculptures, wall installations, and more.

Working with artists has given us the experience to support architects, furniture manufacturers, and set designers who use custom metalwork to add artistic elements to functional objects and spaces.

That's one of the things I appreciate about laser cutting. The process is precise and repeatable, but what our customers do with the finished pieces can be anything but ordinary.

Smaller laser systems can limit the size of the parts, panels, and materials they can handle. That limits what they can deliver.

This sign we laser engraved for Kulshan Brewing Company a few years ago is an example of what larger equipment makes possible. Engraved from 1" thick cedar, it measured 73" x 11.5".

At Terrene, Inc., the beds of our lasers can etch and engrave sheets up to 8' x 4', giving us the ability to handle large-format engraving and etching jobs that smaller laser systems just can't.

Our lasers don't just cut parts. They help make the tooling used to cut parts.

For steel rule dies, we laser cut the die board to precisely match the necessary part geometry. Depending on the requirements, that board may be birch or high-impact polymer. The die board is then fitted with steel rule to create the finished die used for die cutting.

From laser cutting to steel rule die manufacturing and die cutting, we have more ways to help than you might expect.

"Can you get me a quote using this AI file?"

It's a question we hear more and more these days.

Unless you're referring to an Adobe Illustrator (.AI) file, the answer is usually no.

To get an accurate quote and the best possible results, it's important to start with the right kind of artwork. AI-generated images and other low-resolution graphics usually aren't suitable for laser engraving or laser cutting and often require additional artwork preparation before they're ready for production.

Here's what we recommend:

For laser engraving and etching:
• High-contrast grayscale artwork
• .JPG, .PNG, or .TIF files at a minimum of 300 dpi at the final size
• Vector files such as .AI (Adobe Illustrator), .EPS, .CDR, and .PDF

For laser cutting:
• Vector files such as .DWG, .DXF, .STEP, .AI, .EPS, .CDR, and vector .PDF files

Providing the right file from the start helps us get your quote back faster and avoids unexpected artwork charges.

Not sure what you have? No problem. Send us your file, and we'll let you know if it's ready to go or what it needs before production.

We're always happy to answer questions.

These decorative fence panels began as 14 gauge cold rolled steel sheets.

After laser cutting the profile, we formed the perimeter on our CNC press brake, then sent the panels to one of our trusted finishing partners for a burnt umber powder coat.

Whether your project requires laser cutting alone or multiple manufacturing processes, Terrene, Inc. can help deliver finished components that are ready for the next stage.

Companies know they can rely on Terrene, Inc. for tapped holes and other secondary operations on metal components. But those capabilities aren’t limited to metal. We also tap holes in thick acrylic parts.

These 1” thick clear acrylic components were laser cut and then tapped with threaded holes for Genesis Advanced Technologies, Inc., a designer and manufacturer of high-end, custom-crafted loudspeakers, electronics, and interfaces.

Creating features like these requires more than a laser. It takes the right equipment and experience to produce thick acrylic components with the precision needed for final assembly.

We can laser cut 4’ x 8’ acrylic sheets up to 1” thick, giving engineers more flexibility when designing custom parts.

These long, narrow components for Forefront Manufacturing started as 14 gauge cold rolled steel sheets. After laser cutting the profile and holes, they were formed with multiple 90-degree bends on our CNC press brake.

Keeping laser cutting and metal forming under one roof helps maintain accuracy from the flat pattern through forming. Planning both operations together helps ensure laser-cut features end up where they're intended.

Whether you need a prototype or a production run, combining fabrication processes with one manufacturing partner can simplify production and reduce unnecessary handling.
