Stand strong! Happy Saturday!

Love on the people who let you love them. Life is a gift. One day it’s physical—then suddenly, it’s a memory.

Then you’re left standing in the aftermath, trapped in “I wish I would have” and “I should have,” crying as you look at someone lying still and cold tears dripping on their body as you hold on to the casket. Empty.

Empty because ego, pride, disagreements, trauma, or even ambition got in the way of quality time.

You had the opportunity—but you were focused on building your future.

Now that future exists without the one you wanted to see you win.

Fred Phillips' story is a testament to the power of resilience and the importance of fighting for what is right. Born into a time of great racial inequality, Phillips faced countless challenges throughout his life. Yet, he never gave up on his dreams or his commitment to his community.

Phillips was a passionate advocate for economic empowerment. He believed that black businesses were essential to the growth and development of the black community. He mentored and trained numerous barbers, many of whom went on to become successful entrepreneurs in their own right. His commitment to economic empowerment extended beyond barbering, as he also owned a grocery and dry goods store.

However, Phillips' true passion lay in fighting against injustice. In the late 1930s, he participated in the first NAACP case in his town, an act that resulted in him being blackballed. He fought through the 1970s when distributors stopped delivering products to his store and the Ku Klux Klan burned a cross in his yard to instill fear. Despite facing adversity, Phillips remained steadfast in his pursuit of justice and equality. He had a resilient spirit and always found creative ways to overcome obstacles.

Phillips' legacy continues to inspire generations. His unwavering dedication to his community, his entrepreneurial spirit, and his unwavering commitment to social justice serve as a testament to his extraordinary character. He will be remembered as a pioneer who paved the way for others and as a true champion of his people.

His legacy is preceded by his son Maceo Phillips and grandchildren who have positioned themselves to continue the legacy. The family is honored to be a part of this historical moment! Fred Phillips' story is a reminder that even in the face of great adversity, we can make a difference in the world. His life is an inspiration to us all.
