Ventilation in a sauna is not optional. It's how the heat circulates correctly and how humidity stays controllable.
Fresh air enters low — near the floor below the heater. Hot air and steam exit high — near the ceiling on the opposite wall.

Without proper ventilation, the temperature stratifies: the top bench is scalding, the bottom is barely warm, and the steam distribution is uneven.
Every Mande sauna is designed with the correct ventilation geometry built in. You don't need to modify anything. But you do need to leave the vents open.

🪨 Sauna stones are not decorative. They are the heat storage system.
Good stones absorb heat slowly and release it evenly when you pour water.
Cheap or wrong stones crack under thermal stress, crumble into dust, and contaminate your heater.
Replace your stones every 12–24 months depending on use.

Signs they need replacing:
✓ visible cracking
✓ reduced steam output
✓ unusual smell

Harvia heaters come with the right stones. We include them. You don't need to source anything separately.

Why cheap outdoor saunas fail. Not opinion - physics.
Untreated wood absorbs moisture.
Moisture causes expansion.
Expansion causes warping.
Warped panels mean misaligned doors.
Misaligned doors mean heat loss.
Heat loss means longer warm-up times and higher electricity bills.
After two winters, the door doesn't close properly and the structure starts to stress.

Electrical requirements for an outdoor sauna. ⚡
What to tell your electrician before installation.
A 6kW heater (MW12) requires a 240V / 30A dedicated circuit.
A 9kW heater (MW16, MW20) requires a 240V / 40A dedicated circuit.
A GFCI breaker is required for outdoor installations in the US.
Distance from panel to sauna affects wire gauge — your electrician will calculate this.
Most residential panels can handle this without an upgrade.
Budget $300–$800 for electrical work depending on distance and complexity.
This is the question Americans ask most.
Now you have the answer.
