In addition to working on our property in Michigan so we can start building, we also help out our neighbor who raises beef cattle with daily chores when we can. Farming is not for the faint of heart, but the reward of such hard work has become something we've found incredibly fulfilling.

That cute little face below had contracted front tendons (buckled legs) when he was born and wouldn't nurse. The farmer wasn't expecting him to survive. But having just made a mid-life career change to become a veterinary assistant, I decided I would do whatever I could to help. A lot of nudging and walks around the barn along with momma in a chute so he could nurse easier for a while did the trick. Two months later and I'm happy to report "Barney" gets up by himself and walks like a champ. And he's even started stealing some of mom's hay. I feel like a proud grandma!

Our friend the farmer doesn't quite understand why us "city folk" are so interested in helping on the farm. I know he thought I was crazy the first time I met him and asked if I could pet the cows. He also didn't understand why I wanted a few corn stalks and was picking his weeds today. Most people can't figure out why we didn't just plow our old house over and crush it all into a dumpster. But that's ok. We've lived the life we were born into long enough. It was time for us to take the plunge and follow our hearts. It hasn't been easy commuting back and forth and the weather has definitely messed up our schedule. But we just keep putting one foot in front of the other and will hopefully be posting about our adventures and salvaging more often. Thanks for following us!

Not too long ago, the original front portion of this 1902 farmhouse was salvageable to some extent. Sadly, we are hoping to at least save a few support timbers. A leaky roof and the elements have taken their toll. But in its place we are looking forward to building our new shop when we relocate permanently to Michigan. I just wish we could have rescued this home sooner to know more of it's stories...

Hi Everyone!
We know it’s been a while since we posted anything to our page and I wanted to take a moment to explain why. I hope this isn’t too long winded.
We somewhat recently lost one of our parents after losing the other several years prior. As this would take an emotional toll on most by itself, it unfortunately was accompanied with several other necessary actions we were not thoroughly ready to deal with. Not even being “full swing” into the grieving process yet, we were now faced with probate on my family’s estate. The same estate that housed our warehouse and shop for more years than I can truly recall. If you are familiar with the stress, confusion and anxiety that is associated with moving a house, moving a massive warehouse filled with virgin lumber, interior and exterior trim, home accents, lighting and plumbing fixtures, tools, supplies, equipment, etc., is truly mind blowing. This is not something you can just call the movers to take care of.
In addition to “the move”, we still had projects we were contracted to do. We still had commitments to our clients we had to honor. We still had to find a location for our new warehouse and shop. We still had to manage the probate process. We still had to live. Did I mention we have four children too? Yes, two boys in college, two girls in high school. No pressure there. Oh, and then there were the three dogs, then two, (R.I.P Baxter) and now two and a half. (One of our sons thought having a dog as a companion during his college years would be an awesome idea. Half the time there, half the time here.) Not even mentioning whose idea that was. Just know it didn’t come from this house.
Well, the good news is we found the perfect location for our new warehouse, shop, and future residence once the kids are all in college. (Less than two years, but who’s counting? [Both of us]) It’s close to the expressway, easy to get to, beautiful surroundings, peaceful and quiet. It just needs a little work. Like an existing house dismantled, a new house built, a new warehouse erected and a new shop for all our woodworking, milling and custom projects. Minor details…
Nonetheless, we wanted you to understand why we haven’t been around the FB page lately. It’s not that we don’t want to, we seem to not be able to find any spare time. Until now! Keep an eye out on our page. We will be sharing photos of our most recent custom projects, our custom reclaimed flooring installs, interior and exterior reclaimed wood railings, decks, fences and then some. I promise, you will not be disappointed!
Oh, and if you like what you see or read about, Like our page! And if you see something you might be interested in for yourself, please Like our page, then drop us a line, call us, or messenger us. If we don’t have it in stock now, we’ll most likely have it after our next project. In the meantime, remember, just because it’s old doesn’t mean its trash.

What is a “picker”?  Looking through an old barn of rusty equipment and faded furniture, a “picker” is the one who climbs in, investigates, and leaves with the treasure. It’s the archaeologist before the antique store; it’s someone who rolls up their sleeves and jumps in get to the find. …
