I was honored to be invited to speak today to a class of college seniors in the HR Management program at MTSU's Jones College of Business as part of Ethical Leadership Week.

We focused on "3 Moments That Define An Ethical Leader".
1️⃣ When you are tempted
2️⃣ When you are tested
3️⃣ When you are trusted

Thank you to Dr. Kristie Abston for inviting me into her class and to her students for their engagement.
Thank you to Dr. Kelly Manix for hosting an incredible week of activities and allowing me to be a part of it (and the reserved parking spot, and the swag!)

If only...

If only we could approach Mondays with as much joy as my dogs have for a pup cup…

If only we could give as good a "side eye" to rude people as my dog gives me for no reason…

If only we could get as comfortable EVER as these two get on the regular...

That's my two cents for .

Many organizations I have worked with tout the inclusion of Tuition Reimbursement in their benefits package. While this is a great benefit to some, Employee Development funds should not be allocated only for degree-seeking employees.

Many employees are looking for development opportunities through certifications or other short-form learning (e.g., workshops, boot camps, conferences).

As someone who earned a Master's degree paid for by a tuition reimbursement program ($ amount based on grade), I know first-hand the incredible benefit this is.

However, in the last 10 years, I have seen the downside to not offering financial assistance to those seeking development within their more specific career path or area of interest, which could have benefited the organization as well.

Have you committed Tsundoku?

I have! 🤚
As this picture shows, I have committed Tsundoku, the Japanese word for buying books and leaving them unread, in both digital and hard copy form. [Also often referred to as a to-be-read (tbr) list.]

🌟 The Good News: It is often viewed as an affectionate term, a "library of potential" versus something shameful or to feel guilty about.

What a mindset! I will continue to grow my library of potential as well as my finished library. 😁

1 | Statistics here in the U.S. show that ~45% of adults make "New Year's Resolutions". Statistics also show that by the end of January, over 40% have abandoned those resolutions.

2 | I have heard multiple people/organizations/etc. use terms like "level up", "power up", and the like as motivational springboards for this year.

Often, the resolutions we make are to change something about ourselves, but I think this statement I heard recently offers the reminder that we often don't need to "change who we are"; we just may need to change our mindset or behavior to allow us to step fully into who we already are. (Thanks, Kenzi!)

I find that comforting (and motivating).

The last 6 weeks of 2025 were spent working with a client on implementing training around a compliance topic. This fairly small but rapidly growing, family-owned company had never had formal training of this nature but wanted to be "ahead of the curve" as they continue to grow.

Working with them to determine the feel and formality that fit their culture and understand their desired outcomes was super important to ensure effective design and delivery.

Any type of compliance training is usually met with less than enthusiastic participants, because we all know it isn't the most FUN topic. However, it can be vital in maintaining a respectful, productive, and legally compliant workplace.

We had multiple small group sessions, and I am thrilled at some of the feedback from their employees like:
⭐ "This was the best training of this kind that I have experienced, and I have been through A LOT of trainings."
⭐ "I really liked the activity instead of a test at the end. I felt like I was in Kindergarten again...and I mean that in the BEST way."

What a way to end my year!

Last Friday, I spent the day at the ATD Nashville Chapter 2025 Conference -- learning, sharing my knowledge, and connecting with industry peers who are passionate about learning and talent development.

From the opening keynote by Veronica Sterling through breakout sessions to the "Now what" conference wrap-up with Katrina Kennedy, there were threads of commonalities and reinforcement that couldn't have been planned any better. I was so honored to be a part of the conference both as a learner and a session speaker.

Here are just a few nuggets I'd like to share:
👉 When you want to quit, remember that you are already in it- in the midst of advancing toward your goal.
👉 Don't confuse movement with meaning, progress, and/or purpose
👉 Capacity and Courage can be alot easier with Clarity
👉 Slow down to go fast: Spending time to prepare can help make finalizing the work much easier and faster
👉 Future-focused doesn't ignore the now and should blend accountability and empowerment
👉 Including activities and follow-up to reinforce training is a huge opportunity to elevate performance and create lasting results beyond training

Thank you, ATDN, for planning and executing an incredible day of learning!
Thank, Dollar General, for being a perfect host location!

➡️ Tomorrow is the annual conference put on by ATD-Nashville.

⬇️ Today is a day filled with incredible excitement that I get to facilitate a session about a topic I am passionate about.

⬇️ Today is also a day with a touch of nerves and self-doubt. Ugh! Why do we do that to ourselves? So, as I pack up my things for a very early morning tomorrow, I am reminding myself that 1) I have prepared for this, 2) I have something to share, and 3) others will learn (or be reminded) of information and ideas that can help make workplace learning better.

💯 I am looking forward to connecting, sharing, AND learning tomorrow.

⭐ One last important thing...thank you so much to our sponsors. Their contributions allowed the cost to stay low and scholarships to be provided.

ATD Nashville's Annual Conference is scheduled for October 17th.

This year's theme is "Elevating Performance, Empowering People", and the conference team has put together a stellar line up of speakers.

I’m honored to be one of the session presenters, and I look forward to sharing my passion and experience, connecting with fellow Talent Development professionals, and learning from the other incredible speakers lined up.
