(https://www.whirlpool.com/) is currently offering cash reimbursements or repairs through two major class-action settlements involving specific defects in refrigerators sold under the Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, and JennAir brands.
1. Wire Harness Defect Settlement (Side-by-Side Models)
This settlement addresses a defect where wiring in the freezer door can break, causing the in-door ice maker, water dispenser, or control panel to fail.
* Eligible Units: Side-by-side refrigerators manufactured between 2018 and 2021.
* Benefits:
* Cash Reimbursement: Up to 75% of out-of-pocket costs for past repairs or replacements.
* Future Failures: For issues occurring after May 5, 2026, owners may receive a free/discounted repair or a cash payment of up to 50% of the original purchase price.
* Claim Deadline: November 2, 2026.

2. "Frost Clog" Defect Settlement (French-Door/3-Door Models)
A separate settlement resolves claims regarding inadequate defrosting of the evaporator, leading to ice buildup and cooling failures.
* Eligible Units: Certain Whirlpool, KitchenAid, and Maytag 3-door refrigerators manufactured between 2012 and 2019.
* Benefits:
* Cash Payments: Up to $300 for documented repair or replacement costs.
* Variable Rates: Reimbursement amounts are based on the age of the refrigerator at the time of the malfunction.
* Claim Deadlines:
* Past Failures: June 18, 2025.
* Future Failures: Claims for issues occurring after January 31, 2025, must be submitted within 90 days of the repair (accepted through December 31, 2028).

How to Check Your Eligibility
To see if your specific appliance is covered, you will need your refrigerator's model and serial numbers, typically found on a tag inside the frame of the refrigerator door. You can enter these numbers into the lookup tools on the respective settlement websites listed above.
