EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT
From knowing absolutely nothing about fire protection at 20 years old to becoming a Field Manager nearly 25 years later — Mike Shawver has built his career from the ground up at Fire Engineering.
This month, we’re proud to feature Mike Shawver, Field Manager for our Fire Sprinkler Division, in our Employee Spotlight.
Mike started in the field performing fire sprinkler installation at 20 years old. He admits he knew nothing about fire protection when he started, but it didn’t take long for him to realize he had found the career for him.
Over the years, Mike gained experience, worked through challenges, and learned valuable lessons along the way. In 2022, he reached one of his proudest career accomplishments becoming a Field Manager.
When asked what he enjoys most about working at Fire Engineering, Mike said:
“The day-to-day challenge. No two days are ever the same. It can be stressful, but very rewarding when you accomplish your goals.”
Today, Mike has 18 direct reports, and that responsibility keeps him motivated.
“If I don’t do my job, they can’t do theirs.”
After nearly 25 years, Mike has also developed a greater appreciation for being part of a 100% employee-owned company and the long-term financial stability the ESOP can provide employees and their families.
His advice to someone considering fire protection?
“Do it! Our industry isn’t going away.”
Outside of work, Mike enjoys working on cars, fixing things, spending time at the beach with his wife, and building his Lego collection.
When asked to describe Fire Engineering in three words:
Proud. Exceptional. Efficient.
Mike’s journey is a great example of where hard work and a career in the skilled trades can take you.
Thank you, Mike, for nearly 25 years of dedication, leadership, and commitment to Fire Engineering!
