New episode of Behind The Protection is live: Thirty-One Years, Three Countries and a Psalm: Building Fearless, with Keith Billiot

I sat down with Keith Billiot, Founder at Fearless Security Solutions and Consulting, and VELKRA, to talk about Thirty-one years in federal law enforcement - the United Houma Nation to a DEA response team in Chicago to the Regional Training Team in Kabul - and the Psalm that named the company he built afterwards — how they got started, what went wrong along the way, and what they’d tell someone coming up behind them.

Speaker Announcement: Michael Julian at NFMT West

We're pleased to announce that Michael Julian will be speaking at NFMT West.

Situational Awareness & Early Indicators: Preventing Violence Before It Happens
📅 Wednesday, November 4 | 🕒 2:10 - 3:00 PM | 📍 Bronze 1

Violent incidents often show recognizable warning behaviors before they happen. In this session, Michael explains how facilities teams can build observation and reporting practices into their daily operations, so warning signs get noticed and acted on early.

Participants will walk away with:

A clear framework for spotting behavioral and environmental red flags before escalation
Practical methods to reinforce situational awareness across staff and contractors
Approaches for aligning safety protocols with everyday facility routines
Tools for evaluating existing emergency plans through a threat-aware lens

The session is built around real-world application. It's designed for facilities professionals who have to balance operational duties with their duty of care for occupants. Attendees will leave with concrete practices they can put in place right away to improve preparedness, strengthen team confidence and reduce risk.

Will you be attending NFMT West? Let us know in the comments or send us a message. We'd love to connect at the show.

New episode of Behind The Protection is live: Reading the Person, Not the Bag: The Case for Behavioural Analysis, with Philip Baum

I sat down with Philip Baum, Managing Director at Green Light Ltd, to talk about behavioural analysis in aviation security - reading the person instead of screening the object, and why this industry only ever changes after an attack. No locked cockpit doors until 9/11. No shoe screening until Richard Reid. No body scanners until Abdulmutallab. He also names the gap he thinks comes next.
