MYTH: If I don't see pests, I don't have a pest problem.

FACT: Many pests are very good at staying out of sight. They may spend much of their time inside walls, crawlspaces, attics, cabinets and other areas you rarely see.

By the time you actually spot a pest, there may already be more activity happening behind the scenes.

Staff Highlight: Deirdre “Dee” Kennedy

Meet Deirdre Kennedy, better known as Dee, our Secretary/Receptionist and an important part of the Southern Pride Pest Control team for the past six years!

One of Dee’s favorite things about her job is working for a locally owned and operated business and having the opportunity to interact with people in the community she calls home.

After years of working in different jobs and places, she especially enjoys being able to work in the same town where she lives and grew up.

When she is not helping our customers and keeping things running smoothly at Southern Pride, Dee enjoys traveling and playing mahjong.

Brown Recluse or Wolf Spider? Know the Difference!

Not every brown spider you find in your home is a brown recluse. Here are a few characteristics that can help tell them apart:

Brown Recluse
🔸 Usually tan to medium brown
🔸 Often has a darker, violin-shaped marking on the upper body
🔸 Has 6 eyes arranged in 3 pairs rather than the 8 eyes typical of most spiders
🔸 Usually has fairly uniform-colored legs without obvious bands
🔸 Tends to hide in quiet, undisturbed areas

Wolf Spider
🔹 Usually brown, gray or mottled with noticeable patterns
🔹 Often looks hairier and more robust
🔹 Has 8 eyes, including two particularly prominent eyes
🔹 Hunts on foot rather than relying on a web to catch prey
🔹 May be seen running across floors, garages or outdoor areas

Because markings and appearance can vary, do not rely on one characteristic alone to identify a spider.

Why Do Rodents Invade Homes in Autumn?

This week, we are proud to introduce Eric Davis, one of the experienced Pest Technicians at Southern Pride Pest Control!

Eric brings an impressive 24 years of experience in the pest control industry, including 13 years with Southern Pride. What does he enjoy most about his job? Building relationships with customers, meeting their needs, and taking pride in providing quality service.

Outside of work, Eric enjoys spending time with his family. He has been married for 25 years, has two children, Jonah and Sara Beth, and one grandchild, Elsie. He is also a Tennessee Vols and Atlanta Braves fan and enjoys lunch with his wife.
