74 lives. 74 stories. 74 people who should still be here.

Across ODOT and OTA, 74 Oklahoma work zone employees have lost their lives while serving our state. They were not statistics. They were people with families, coworkers, friends, and lives that mattered. They showed up to work just like any other day, and one moment changed everything.

As we recognize National Work Zone Awareness Week, we pause to remember those 74 lives and the families forever impacted by their loss.

Slow down. Stay alert. Put the phone down. Give work zones your full attention. Because every person deserves to make it home.

For National Work Zone Awareness Week, we are proud to shine a light on Joshua Girdner in our Safety Spotlight.

Joshua shared that what he likes most about his job is that it has greatly improved the quality of life for him and his family. Outside of work, he enjoys gaming and computers.

When asked what safety tip he would give a coworker, Joshua said, “Stay alert and never become complacent.” That same mindset is reflected in what working safely means to him: staying alert and preventing harm to himself, his crew, and the public.

That is what this week is all about. Real work. Real people. Real risks.

Thank you, Joshua, for the work you do and for helping keep safety front and center every day.

To close out Go Orange Day, we had to bring it home with our own crew!

Thank you to everyone who wore orange, shared a post, stopped by, and helped us shine a bigger light on the importance of slowing down, staying alert, and protecting the men and women working on our roadways.

Muskogee PD understood the assignment today, and K9 Nono may have stolen the show. 🧡🐾

A big thank you to Chief Teehee and the Muskogee Police Department for showing their support for Go Orange Day and helping spotlight the importance of work zone safety. With Move Over enforcement happening today, they are helping send a message every driver needs to hear: slow down, move over, and pay attention.

Awareness matters. Enforcement matters. And protecting the people working on our roads matters.

As part of National Work Zone Awareness Week, today is all about wearing orange to raise awareness for the people working in and around our roadways. It is a simple way to show support and remind others that work zone safety matters every time they get behind the wheel. 🧡

We want to see your orange. Wear it today, take a photo, share it on Facebook, and tag us so we can help spread the message even further. Together, we can keep bringing awareness to the importance of slowing down, staying alert, and protecting lives in work zones.
