Harvest, according to Jamey Whetstone:

“Up before the sun. Black coffee in hand. A long walk through the vineyard before the business of the day begins.

If I’m headed all the way out to Annapolis to sample, it’s a 5am departure — early enough to beat the school bus and watch the sunrise in the rearview as I wind through the mountains + valleys of northern Sonoma.

Back at the w**ery, it’s nose into every tank and barrel, every day. Checking in on the ferments, troubleshooting when needed, and taking in one of the best smells of the season.

Once a week, a harvest-only pilgrimage to Bouchon Bakery for a pain au chocolat.

The soundtrack: Vince Guaraldi, Stan Getz, Thelonious Monk + Bill Evans.

And when the day is done?  Martinis are always a part of the evening repertoire at Chez Whetstone along with veggies from the garden and some cow for the grill.
