Some vineyards grow grapes. Others grow history.

Our Vermeil Wines Zinfandel comes from the historic Luvisi Vineyard in Calistoga, where some of Napa Valley’s oldest Zinfandel vines have been thriving since 1908. For more than a century, the Luvisi family has farmed this land, preserving head-trained, dry-farmed vines that produce fruit with remarkable depth and character. The Luvisi and Frediani families grew up working these vineyards together, continuing a legacy that spans generations.

Every bottle is a tribute to old vines, dedicated farming, and the enduring spirit of Napa Valley.

Coach Vermeil’s connection to w**e began long before Vermeil Wines. His grandfather, Al, made family w**e using grapes from Frediani Vineyard in Calistoga—the very same vineyard that supplies Vermeil Wines today. Each harvest, Coach’s father and uncle would bring the grapes home, where Al crafted w**e using old-world techniques, including moon-phase racking. Growing up with an Italian grandmother and French grandfather, w**e was part of nearly every family meal, and Coach was often asked to share his thoughts on the vintage at the table. On special occasions, he even got a small taste straight from his grandfather’s w**e thief—a tradition that helped spark a lifelong appreciation for great w**e and the legacy behind every bottle of Jean Louis Vermeil Cabernet Sauvignon.

Based on 41% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Cabernet Franc, and 19% Petite Sirah from the Frediani Vineyard, the 2023 ###IV (34) sports an inky hue as well as black fruits, leafy herbs, graphite, and iron notes. It’s medium to full-bodied, concentrated, and tannic, with serious structure, a grippy mouthfeel, and a great finish. You need to love tannins if you’re going to open bottles over the coming 3-4 years. There are 539 cases produced. Drink 2030-2045.
