We truly appreciate many of you reaching out to check on us. Know that the national media is doing a pretty good job of stirring up your anxiety.
Our local weather teams are much calmer and more knowledgeable about how the hurricanes affect our area.
They are working nonstop to give us updates and telling us how to prepare.

We are monitoring Hurricane Milton.

Right now, the models are showing this heading more to Tampa or north of there.

For our area, the weather stations predict that there could be storm surges close to the beach. The winds are only predicted to be about 20-40 mph with quite a bit of rain. This would not be severe enough to install hurricane shutters.

We will continue to monitor the storm as it continues to move towards Florida.

We continue to monitor Hurricane Helene. Predictions are 30 - 40 mph winds and storm surges close to the beach.

Hello Debby. The National Hurricane Center has upgraded Debby to a Tropical Storm. No real changes to the track, but they do bump up winds 5 mph upon landfall which would upgrade Debby to a hurricane. They also slow it down as it approaches land not making landfall until Monday afternoon.

Away Home Watch will be here for you if a hurricane does form and head our way. But remember rule #7 - don’t freak out!

Away Home Watch will be here for you if a hurricane does form and head our way. But remember rule #7 - don’t freak out!

Hurricane Season 101:

1. If you're new to our area (or you need a refresher course), here are a few things to remember.
2. We are in for a busy couple of months in the tropics. We all know this. If you haven't been listening, now is probably the time to do so. It's a marathon, not a sprint.
3. This blob in yellow hasn't even developed yet. There are a TON of things that will go against every single possible system in the Atlantic. Shear, dry air, land, etc. Expect NUMEROUS track changes over a 4 to 7 day stretch.
4. In dealing with Florida, it's even tougher. A slight move to the right, keeps any storm East of the state. A slight move to the West, takes it into the Gulf. There is absolutely NO way a storm coming in at this angle can be forecasted with exact precision this far out. With any storms, the odds are extremely certainly low of actual direct impact on our area.
5. Occasionally, there might be a storm we are very confident in its track a week out. THIS, is not one of them. (If it even forms in the first place)
6. So, my message is the same as its been for the past few months. Make a plan. If we need to react to what would be "Debby" in a week or so, we will do so. At this point, as is the case with MOST systems that could threaten Florida, the direct threat to the Bay Area is low.
7. Rule #7. Don't freak out until I tell you to. We're fine.

We are watching the current tropical storm Idalia as it develops.

The weather stations are showing that if it hits our area the winds will be about 40 mph.

We are watching this closely to determine if hurricane shutters need to be installed and/or lanai furniture brought inside.

We will be sending out updates on the storm development as they become available.

HURRICANE IAN UPDATE
We have been monitoring the current hurricane predictions.

The local news stations are showing live models.
We are currently experiencing light rain (3:20 pm - Tuesday).

It is being reported that when the hurricane makes landfall it will be downgraded to a category 1 hurricane. There is a cold front that is weakening the storm.

We have contacted the clients that we felt needed furniture to be secured.

After the storm passes we will assess the need to check on homes that may have had power outages.

Thanks, Doug and Sara
