🩺🎃 We LOVE our ER nurses… but let's not give them any extra work this fall! 😂

This Emergency Nurses Day, we're celebrating the incredible nurses who care for patients during some of their most difficult moments. Our North Collier Fire crews see firsthand the skill, compassion, and dedication they bring to emergency care every day. ❤️

And while we're grateful they're always there when we need them, we'd much rather help you avoid an unexpected trip to the ER!

🎃 Carving pumpkins? Use proper carving tools, keep your hands out of the cutting path, and leave the sharp work to adults.

🔥 Lighting up your Halloween decorations? Choose battery-operated candles to help prevent burns and fires.

🍂 Hanging fall decorations? Use a sturdy ladder, watch your footing, and keep walkways free of tripping hazards.

👻 Heading out for Halloween fun? Make sure costumes don't obstruct vision and carry a flashlight after dark.

🚪🔥 Did you know that something as simple as closing your bedroom door before going to sleep could help save your life in a house fire?

👻 Keep the ghosts and ghouls out… and the smoke and flames, too!

There are plenty of things that go bump in the night this spooky season, but one thing you definitely don't want sneaking into your bedroom is smoke and fire!

A closed door can help slow the spread of smoke, heat, and flames, potentially giving you valuable extra time to escape or remain protected while firefighters respond.

That's why we're reminding everyone to CLOSE BEFORE YOU DOZE! 💤

But don't stop at closing the door! Make sure you also have:

🚨 Working smoke alarms inside and outside sleeping areas and on every level of your home.

🏠 A home fire escape plan that everyone in your household knows and practices.

🚪 A habit of closing bedroom doors every night before going to sleep.

Activated on October 7 in preparation for Hurricane Isaias's landfall, Florida Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 6 completed its deployment to North Florida. We are one of the task force’s 12 partner agencies and its only participating agency from Collier County.

Representing North Collier Fire on this deployment were Battalion Chief Jeff Green, Lieutenant Dennis Kerr, and Engineers Gregory Carr, Jesse DeWitt, and Michael Spano. Working together, the task force teammates supported search and rescue operations, damage assessments, and reconnaissance in storm-impacted communities.

We extend our sincere thanks to Florida Chief Financial Officer and State Fire Marshal Blaise Ingoglia and his team at the State Fire Marshal’s Office for visiting with task force members and personally ensuring they had the resources needed to stay safe and focus on helping those impacted by Hurricane Isaias.

We also want to extend our deepest gratitude to the families of all deployed members; your support and sacrifice allow them to serve. Thank you ❤️

Understanding Amendment 3's impact starts with a conversation.

At a recent Greater Naples Chamber event, North Collier Fire Chief Eloy Ricardo and Collier County Commissioner Bill McDaniel sat down to discuss Amendment 3 and what it could mean for our community.

Property tax relief matters to residents, and so does understanding how your local government and fire district are funded. These conversations give the public an opportunity to consider the issue, ask questions, and make informed decisions.

🎃🚩 Those beach flags aren't for decoration!

October might be full of spooky decorations, but the warning flags flying at our beaches are something to take seriously.

With recent hazardous beach conditions affecting Southwest Florida, our North Collier Fire Ocean Rescue team wants to remind beachgoers to understand the warning flags before heading toward the Gulf.

🚩🚩 DOUBLE RED FLAGS: Extremely hazardous water conditions. Under the standard beach warning flag system, this means the water is closed to the public.

🚩 RED FLAG: High hazard — strong currents and/or high surf.

🟨 YELLOW FLAG: Medium hazard — moderate surf and/or currents.

🟩 GREEN FLAG: Low hazard — but always use caution.

🌊 Rip currents and rough surf can be dangerous, even for experienced swimmers. Always check current conditions, pay attention to posted warnings, and follow guidance from Ocean Rescue lifeguards.

👻 Save the scares for Halloween. Don't let the Gulf catch you by surprise.

👻🏚️ Spooky garages are fun. A real house of horrors? Not so much. 🔥

Halloween decorations might give you a good scare, but the footage of an e-scooter battery catching fire while charging inside a garage shows just how quickly a real nightmare can begin.

Lithium-ion batteries power everything from phones and tools to e-bikes and e-scooters. But when these batteries fail, they can enter a dangerous process called thermal runaway, releasing intense heat and potentially causing a rapidly spreading fire.

⚡ As we wrap up Fire Prevention Week, remember these important safety tips when charging e-bikes and e-scooters:

🔋 Charge outside when possible, away from your home and anything that can burn, following the manufacturer's instructions.

🔌 Use only manufacturer-approved batteries and chargers. Never use incompatible or damaged charging equipment.

🚪 Keep exits clear. Never charge or store an e-bike or e-scooter where it could block your escape during a fire.

🌙 Never charge while sleeping or away from home. Stay nearby and unplug once fully charged.

🚨 If a battery begins smoking or catches fire, get out, stay out, and call 911 from a safe location.

🎃 Keep the horror in the Halloween decorations, not your garage.
