A grief journey is long & complicated. Walking through one is difficult but so is walking alongside someone going through grief. Everyone’s needs are so different and can change depending on the place they are at & what they are processing.

I think sometimes we shy away from walking beside someone during their grief because we are not sure what they need & are afraid to say the wrong thing. It’s okay if we do get it wrong. It’s okay if all we do is just sit silently and hold space for the person’s grief. It’s okay to ask questions.

As the person grieving, it’s okay to let those around you know your needs & the milestones that are most meaningful or difficult for you.

My grief journey has been a messy process. Friends & family like these 2 Ugly Selfie Girls, who sent my mom a b-day card this year, have made it way less lonely!

So, if you are experiencing loss or grief or watching someone you love experience it, my humble advice would be - hold the hand, give the hug, send the card, make the mac & cheese, ugly cry, eat the mac & cheese, ugly cry while you eat the mac & cheese, do the silly lipsink battle, dance, blow the bubbles, share the stories, journal the messy thoughts, listen to the sad song (or don’t), give the chocolate, play the board game, eat the Fudgsicle, sit in silence, take a break.

Whatever feels right. Give & receive those things. These journeys are not one size fits all and they are best walked together. You will get through, one unique step at a time💛💙

Sometimes we need to be reminded to take time to reflect on the beauty of it all. 🧡
