As you drive down into the townsite of Knappton heading toward the Astoria/Megler bridge imagine this. The present highway is very close to where the Knappton yard crew is working in this scene. The mill town began developing in 1875 and prospered until the disastrous fire of July, 6, 1941. All that remains is the mill engine bedplate and the silent piling standing guard as time and the river continue to erode their presence.
