The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation is working to reaffirm all the previous seatbelt pledges that were completed back in 2008. This is a project that I have taken on in our state to ensure we get as many departments to sign the pledge as possible.

Back home from our 2026 National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Advocate Summit in Savannah Ga. this week. Sometimes you need a reset of adrenaline and energy to make you understand why you do things. This week was just that for me as I gathered with 122 of the finest leaders in the fire service to network and shape the future of outreach and education for the NFFF. We recognized our recent Fellows Cohort graduates who have worked extremely hard over the last 12-18 months. We had great speakers this week and one of those was FF Eugene Stolowski with FDNY who was one of four firefighters who had to jump from a 4th floor window during an apartment fire in which two firefighters died and four others seriously injured. This was a tragic event that we all can learn from. The will power of FF Stolowski to share the story with us speaks volumes of his compassion, care, and dedication to ensuring this doesn’t happen again. I encourage you to search FDNY Black Sunday and read the details of this incident. Lastly, I want thank all of the Region IV Advocates who attended the summit from the Southeast. I am humbled to lead this group and thank you all for your support and dedication to the Foundation.

Congratulations to Fire Marshal Jon Williams, who has earned the prestigious Fire Marshal (FM) professional designation from the Center for Public Safety Excellence!

The credential recognizes fire service professionals who demonstrate a high level of competence through their professional experience, education, technical expertise, and community service, while meeting rigorous standards for performance, ethics and conduct.

And this is an especially impressive accomplishment: Jon is just the 31st person in North Carolina and 343rd in the United States to earn the designation. 👏

We would like to thank Chief Joseph Radford and the Pine Level FD for hosting a series of four classes these last two weeks. Courage to be Safe, Leadership Accountability Culture and Knowledge, Leadership So Everyone Goes Home, and Safe and Effective Fireground Management. We had some great discussions on leadership, risk management, and keys to prevent firefighter injuries and line of duty deaths. A special thanks to Robert Swiger Sr. for letting me share the classroom with him the last two weeks.
