STAYING WARM (WHEN THE HEAT IS GONE)
Heat the PERSON, not the house
• Wear tight base layer + thick layer + wind-block layer
• Hat + thick socks = game changer
• Blanket UNDER you at night, not just on top
Make a “warm room”
• Close doors to unused rooms
• Hang blankets over doorways
• Build a blanket fort around a couch or table — smaller space = warmer air
DIY Heat Packs
• Fill bottles or jars with warm tap water (if you still have hot water)
• Wrap in a towel and keep near your core
Car Warm-Ups
• Run car OUTSIDE only, never garage
• Warm up 10–15 mins at a time
• Charge phones while running to save battery
NO STOVE? NO PROBLEM — NO-COOK FOOD IDEAS
You do NOT need heat to stay fueled. Focus on >>high-calorie, high-protein flashlights (hands free = safer)
STAY WARM FROM THE INSIDE
• Do 30 seconds of jumping jacks or squats every hour
• Drink fluids — dehydration makes you feel colder
• Sleep in layers and close together if safe
COMMUNITY CARE (MOST IMPORTANT)
Check on:
• Elderly neighbors
• Families with babies
• Anyone living alone
Sharing space, food, or warmth can make a huge difference.
🚫 DO NOT DO THESE (SERIOUSLY)
❌ No grills, camp stoves, or charcoal indoors
❌ No generators in garages or near windows
❌ No gas ovens for heat
Headache, dizziness, nausea = GET OUTSIDE IMMEDIATELY (carbon monoxide warning)
We get through hard seasons by taking care of each other. Be the warmth someone else needs right now. 🤍
