At which end of the elephant do you work? I once had senior director explain that the in the “circus” we called our business, he was the elephant and my job in HR was to clean up after him.

For years I thought he was right. He wasn’t. Great HR professionals know where the company is going and work in the front, helping steer the elephant (company leadership) to strategically avoid potential risk and assist them in getting where they want to go. Tactical HR is paper pushing. Strategic HR is out front clearing the way for strategic success. I choose to lead from the front.
