Chicago Democrats propose a new law that targets Illinois Farmers. A new 72 Hour Rule!
Democrat Sponsored legislation (HB1596) has been introduced in Springfield that calls for 72 hours notification before applying some agricultural chemicals has stalled in the General Assembly. Illinois farmers would have to file paperwork with the state before every application of farm chemicals or pesticides.
According to Corey Lacey who is the environmental policy manager with the Illinois Soybean Association: “It said that any time a pesticide application happened within 1,500 feet of a school, or park or trail, a notice would basically have to go out.”
All farmers know that applications are extremely weather dependent. This new requirement could cause big delays in necessary applications and harm crops in Illinois and cause financial loss for the Illinois AG industry and local Illinois farms.
Ag community has responded to the Democrat legislation sating that: "They’re trying to invent a problem that doesn’t exist."
It should be noted that the Illinois Department of Agriculture was asked how many complaints that had about somebody spraying? A: There have only been two inquiries or complaints filed in the last eight years.
The legislator who sponsored Illinois 25 cent Grocery Bag Tax legislation, Laura Faver Dias (D) is the main sponsor of the bill.
Co Sponsors of the bill are: Democrats: Rep. Will Guzzardi - Laura Faver Dias, Anne Stava, Daniel Didech, Lisa Davis, Michelle Mussman, Rick Ryan, Barbara Hernandez, Lilian Jiménez, Aarón M. Ortíz, Lindsey LaPointe, Robyn Gabel, Diane Blair-Sherlock, Mary Beth Canty and Ann M. Williams
