BASIC “START A BUSINESS” FAQs.

1. Create a name for your business.

2. File it as an LLC (limited liability company) with the Federal Government and retrieve the EIN Number.

3. Register your Business with your Secretary of State Department

4. Open a business bank account, in the business name, with bank/Credit Union using the EIN number as social (some financial institutions will allow some will not).

5. Choose a room inside of your home as an office.
*A brick and mortar business (like McDonald’s) get tax deductions on the expenses for the building they occupy SO WHY NOT USE YOUR HOME AS A HOME BASED BUSINESS*

6. KEEP RECORD OF EVERYTHING (income + expenses)

7. A PORTION of your bills monthly bills will become tax deductible, depending on what size of the room you use as an office. CONSULT WITH YOUR CPA for more details.
Example:
The spare bedroom is your office EXCLUSIVELY.
It makes up 30% of your entire home.
Your rent is $1000.
30% of that $1000 = $300.
$300 x 12 (months) = $3,600
$3,600 will be deducted from your taxable income when you file taxes. This includes bills such as: electric bill, water bill, cable/internet, cellphone, mortgage (the interest), car maintenance, miles driven in that car, materials for your business, advertising, etc

8. Employ your child(ren) and pay them up to $12k per year. This amount is a tax deduction as well.
